Anthony Scaramucci Out as White House Communications Director

Anthony Scaramucci Out as White House Communications Director:  President Trump has removed Anthony Scaramucci from his position as White House communications director, just days after Scaramucci unloaded a crude verbal tirade against other members of the president’s senior staff.

Good grief, makes you wonder just what the hell kind of circus are…

World War Two Economic Statistics

Paul Kennedy's 1987 work, "The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers," is arguably one of the most influential works I have ever read and is mandatory reading in most collegiate international studies courses today. The author uses economic data to explain the rise and fall of (you guessed it) Great Powers from the 1500s up to today, explaining how European powers and later, the United States, rose to global dominance, supplanting China, the Mughals and Indian Princely States, and the Ottoman…

Crimson Jesus Chronicles: Chapter 24

Chapter 24: The Gift Of The Mad Guy, Blunder Woman Returns, Crimson Ger Appears

Being the giving, compassionate neighbor that I am, I wanted to return the favor that Morticia did for me when she anonymously delivered a bag of fake dicks to my house.  And yes, folks that may be inquiring, Kojak can in fact eat a bag of dicks, but I won’t let him because they have to last.  It’s not like I have an endless supply.

So I went out with Methusela last time and bought a…

Living the Dream - Updated 2 times (Viva le Fred!)

I got up early this morning, took a shower, got dressed and dried my hair, and I am sitting on my front porch eating fruit and enjoying the morning. This is exactly how I have envisioned starting my days in retirement, the only thing that would make it better would be an ocean across the street and some palm trees. …

Salad Lovers Toss as Crouton Shortage Looms

GREEN RIDGE, Mo. Sam Jones has been a grain buyer in this small town for nearly four decades, but he wears an expression of concern as he watches farmers arrive at the local grain elevator to sell their crops. “If I had the money right now, which I don’t,” he says with a knowing look, “I’d be buying up all the croutons I could find.”

Ripe croutons, ready for harvest

Croutons–sauteed or rebaked bread that is seasoned, cut into cubes and added to…

Putin Orders 755 Personnel Cut From U.S. Missions

Putin Orders 755 Personnel Cut From U.S. Missions:  In response to new U.S. sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered that the U.S. diplomatic missions in Moscow and elsewhere in the country will have to cut 755 staff members.  Putin said under his new directive, senior diplomatic staff will be cut with sharp, pointy objects, while lower functionaries will only receive paper cuts.…

Summer Fog

Summer in Western Washington on the Puget Sound arrived right on time- a bit after the 4th of July. It's been sunny and not too hot for weeks now. I understand we are heading for record high temps (maybe 100+) over the rest of this week for the Seattle area, and probably high 90s here in Port Orchard. It won't last very long, but it will be enough to remind us of one of the reasons why we left Long Island, which regularly gets blistering heat waves.

One of my favorite parts of our…

WASPs Fret as Global Warming Causes Weaker Cocktails

EASTHAMPTON, N.Y.  Mornings are chilly in this upscale town on Long Island even during the summer, but by eleven a.m. temperatures are positively torrid. “I can hardly wait for five o’clock,” says Clifton Felton-Day, chairman of the annual Summer Fling for the Cure for Long Island Lockjaw here. “I so look forward to my gin and tonic.”…

Life Being Unfair is an Understatement

My sister's 14-year-old grandson has been dealt a nasty blow.  Like millions of other American families who receive a wholly unexpected medical diagnosis, my nephew is facing a long, drawn-out financial destruction.  Please read his story below and forward to any organization or private party who provide help for this kind of need.  …

Scaramucci Asks People to Keep His Family in Their Prayers

Scaramucci Asks People to Keep His Family in Their Prayers:  In response to news stories about his wife filing for divorce shortly after he took the job as president Trump’s Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci is asking everyone to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers.  Oh, he and the rest of the Trump Administration are most definitely in our prayers, but I’m not quite sure he’d be all that happy about what we’ve been praying…

Two Questions for Sunday; One Easy the Other Not So

A Las Vegas hacking competition resulted in U.S. election machines being hacked within 90 minutes, across multiple vendors and from multiple locations. Does anyone think Russia’s intelligence agents, supposedly the world’s best, couldn’t have done the same?

Is there any voting system that is immune to cheating?

Dunkirk; The Movie

I recently went to see this new movie, being a student of history, especially military and within the scope of that, particularly naval warfare. Thus for me it was required viewing. I encourage everyone interested in history or action movies to see it as well, particularly on the big screen. If you wait for it to come out on Net Flicks or DVD, you'll be cheating yourself as the air battles and the sense of vastness of the sea will be lost on a smaller screen, unless of course,…

A few random photos

I live near Binghamton, NY, which has had record precipitation this year. This past winter, the area got more snowfall than Syracuse, the major city with the greatest average snowfall in the US. I posted pictures of a  snowfall. But the precipitation hasn't stopped in warm weather. We're on our way to setting a rainfall record as well. Last Tuesday, I happened to be in a spot where I could get a good long look at the…
