I am Job

Posted on February 8, 2013 at 12:17am 4 Comments

I am suffering. Greatly.

(I wonder: More or less than those of you reading this? but I'd like to break the habit of comparing my life to others.)

I would NEVER kill myself - I have too many passions, interests, things to be grateful for, etc., etc.,

but every day I like to THINK about, imagine killing myself . Today I caught a glimpse of the news talking about an asteroid coming near Earth and for a split second the constant pain/anxiety in my gut melted and I thought…

Not Saying Goodbye to My Soul-Mate Just Yet

M age 12 1/2 in 2008

One evening about 12 years ago, I took M out for a quick walk before going to the theater. There was a yellow light at the very busy intersection we needed to cross, and I decided to make a run for it. Sadly, I was wearing giant platform heels at the time which lead to my landing face down in the…

Powerful Women and Broken Girls

Posted on January 17, 2013 at 6:01pm 7 Comments

The cycle of life --a woman's life--is in my thoughts right now.

Girls at Penny's school are cutting themselves, leaving deep wounds. These girls have not been through the severe trauma that Penny has experienced,  but they are lashing out against their own bodies, their own sanity, their own power. We want to shake them, "Live Big and Wild and Free! Be You!" But instead they crouch behind their bedroom doors, tearing at their flesh, crying and doing so little with their young,…

holiday fun with unstable 8th grader

Since I'm having a hard time getting back into the habit of blogging, I'm just going to make a list of thoughts.

1)There is NO doubt in my mind that if there was a gun in my house I would have been killed by now. Please don't judge the mom's ability to parent her mentally ill child, but DO question why such a mom would keep an arsenal in the house. All of my sharp kitchen knives are kept in the trunk of my car.

2)I am furious at the mom of my kid's friend. I hate to be… Continue

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the ABOUT tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.

Site News, Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy can also be found under the ABOUT tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
