No Regrets

Posted on June 20, 2019 at 7:30am 22 Comments

I'm signing off in a few days, with no more posting to follow this.

The only tasks remaining are to download a few more posts and comments. The comments are where it got gritty and people would open up.

Soon all that will gone into the ether, so to speak.

It's been interesting reading comments to see how well I got along with some people at times. For the most part anyway. Things change of course and for a myriad of reasons some exchanges have devolved beyond…

Tolerance and Bigots

Posted on June 18, 2019 at 2:20pm 6 Comments

Tolerance implies a sense of superiority.

I don't think it is thought of that way very often.

Intolerance is not so terribly different because it is another way of thinking that implies superiority. Most of us recognize that a person who repeatedly spews their intolerance towards thinking that is different than their own is guilty of bigotry. Maybe it's lesser than that. Maybe it is just small mindedness.

Indifference is the ability to go on without caring what…

Spencer Has Moved

Posted on June 10, 2019 at 12:30pm 10 Comments

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Spencer Bohren through another musician friend. She tours the US and Europe and knew him well. We spent an afternoon together shortly after the flooding of New Orleans.

He was an historian and story teller. His "roots" knowledge was extensive and well expressed in his performances.…

Abput your concerns about the protection of your identity:

Your real name, address and other particluars are not published. They are in a secured dateabase. We both know how valueless these security systems are. If someone wants to get in, they are going to get in.

That said, we are operating with SSL encryption and a secured database and the editors are the only people who have access to that data. We need that data so that if you wish to get paid, we can legally pay you and if you don't wish to get paid, we need a signed statement from you waiving payment and we have to be able to track that statement back to your screen name....but we are not about to share any of our information with anyone. It's coin of the realm as far as I am concerned. How do you buy money with money?

J don't know anything about your situation, but I stopped hiding some years ago when I realized that no one cared anymore what I did or didn't do.

I am pushing you because I want to keep this community together and to see it grown. Why not? I have put mechanisms in place that will keep this thing running in perpetuity whether I am here or not because, for one thing, I am going to use this space to preserve my collected poetry since I don't think anyone is ever going to pay me for a 1,000 book of poems from an unknown poet.

Poets who expect to make a living as poets (unless you are Bob Dylan, and half a hundred other super poets) are neither poets nor making a living.

Come on. It will be more fun with you than without you.

It takes around two minutes to do it this way.

Once you are signed up, I can send you an invitation to the group.
