According to the extensive medical research I did last night, schizophrenia is a random disease hitting across social classes and countries. Developmental factors that contribute to schizophrenia are poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, and substance abuse.
My wife said that schizophrenia was contagious in that if you live with a schizophrenia, supposedly you become schizophrenic yourself. Sounded plausible to me, but the literature says it ain't so.
In any event, schizophrenia has been very much in my minds lately. No doubt you know our resident expert, Doc Vega. Believe me, you will not have experienced the full monty until you have read all your way through one of his paranoid schizophrenic screeds.
But Doc distinguishes himself as the legitimate leader of the Republican Party! He is Suslov to Donald Trump's Stalin. If you don't believe me, you haven't been following the latest zoo news campaign coverage of the GOP candidate-sters. Donald Trump is just one juicy bon bon in the entire assortment of Whitman's Sampler that is arrayed for us nightly.
Many people have commented on the craziness of the great right wing conspiracy, and I think my wife has actually come upon a possible reason why the GOP is truly out to lunch.
"If you live with a schizophrenic, you become schizophrenic yourself." Male medicos can claim that this mental illness is not contagious, but then they are not women. Women who grow up in households where there is a schizophrenic suffer tremendous personal emotional burdens, Unlike men, they are the caregivers. And so they have to internalize, suck it in, carry on, and continue with the home management.
But what do women do in this situation beyond the wonderfulness of family dynamics? They go to church! And for much of the Bible Belt, what kind of churches are there? Fundamentalist evangelical -- it's the Southern tradition.
Mind you, the extent of my deepest exposure to Southern culture was on an Easter road trip from the University of Illinois to Fort Lauderdale. But it seems to me, that about 1395% of the entire country
bEL0NGS t0 jESUS! And I'll bet dollars to Jesus that a goodly percentage of churches have a gaggle of families with schizophrenic, autistic, bipolar, ADHD, etc. kids and adults in tow.
Now here's where we introduce the vector theory of political extremism. Mosquitos are carriers, and swamps are vectors. So where do mental illness and Republican politics meet? In church!!
The one thing I've found in my observations of close to fundamentalist churches is their unanimity of opinion and outlook. The right wing can accuse the Red Chinese of being an army of ants, but if you ever desire the most extremely conformist environment you can imagine -- you couldn't do better than to attend a white Fundamental Baptist church.
Lockstep unanimity of opinion and a Stalinist love of adhering to the party line have always been an essential part of the the right wing party line in this country.
And so, we see the words of Doc Vega being echoed and parroted by the various GOP presidential candidates.
