Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I posted here.  It's been a busy summer, but there was some downtime there.  The only problem was, it wasn't enough for me to post and then follow up on all of the posts I'd missed. I felt bad just publishing something here - the community is the most awesome feature of this site, after all, and I care for so many of you guys.

And then I thought, why not just ask everyone what's up, and see if they'll respond in the comments?

As for me, I've been working hard but not smart, as several smug relatives have pointed out; soul-searching; mothering; and I've just returned from a jaunt in Florida, where Julien had a grand old first time at the beach.

I hope you're all doing well and that your summer's been a good one.  Again, if you'd like, I'd love to hear what's been up with you.  And I'll hopefully be back soon to catch up on my Our Salon reading.

Glad to see you post whether you can follow up or not.   I am enjoying my cabin in Hawaii.  It is so beautiful here.  Kids grow up fast and my daughters are nearby and in their thirties...Ms Petunia is already five and she will be a handful as she grows up.   I still like to get stoned everyday and yet take care of business.  People need to know how to balance things...Im glad you are balancing your mother role with your other roles and the beach in Florida sounds fun.  People want you to make money...isn't that what "working smart' means?  I just want you to be happy.

Nice to hear from you, Alysa!

Hi Alysa!  Nothing but gardening, gardening, a little bit of working, working, thrown in, playing with the granddaughters.... visiting with and getting to know Carole a little bit - who writes here as Carole Dixon, and did on OS as PoetTESS - she moved to my town this summer! Another OS connection turned 3D.

Also avoiding wildfires/wildfire smoke. Oh, and writing. I will get at least one manuscript finished this year!

Maybe we ought to just post photos of our summers in photo essay posts - those of us either too busy for posts or just not having many words to share..... and yes, of course! I am angling for a peek at Julien   : )

Hi guys,  Thanks for sharing your news (or, in Kosh's case, lack thereof :-) ).  I miss you!

And Anna, I'm glad you're safe from the wildfires - when I heard about them, I thought of you.  I also LOVE your idea of summer photo essays.  You should launch it as an Open Call, so that hopefully lots of other people will do it, too!  If you do, I'll definitely contribute - it's easy enough to put a few photos together, and I certainly have a lot of them from this summer.

Again, thanks for stopping by, guys.  I'll be back to read you all soon!

As Anna said, I've relocated from the Deep South to Oregon with my old vetern husband, granddaughter and two dogs. We've gone from seven acres in the country to a quarter of an acre in town. We like it. Ok, the teenager is on a journey, learning to like it. It definitely seems like an upgrade to me. I walk everywhere, have wonderful views, better food that is local and organic and in a community whose politics are polar opposite to those in the south and this is a definite plus. Becoming friends with Anna is great plus too. She has made this transition so much easier for me with her friendship and knowledge.
