There is a certain Texan here on Our Salon who regularly posts his own twisted version of current events with provocative language about conspiracy and race and customized "facts" which clearly invite comments and conflict.  This isn't Trollish behavior in the traditional internet ethic of creative chaos, but much more in the boorish pontification of bigoted and paranoid agit-prop commentary found in specialized chat rooms.

Never having been one to engage in unnecessary "dust ups,"  I have chosen not to take his bait and never bothered to read or comment on his posts; but his latest atrocity has accumulated more comments than any of his previous posts.  While I remained determined not to add to that noise, I still felt the need to do something, so I started looking at the numbers:

Of his last 20 posts, five have zero comments. Eight have five or fewer comments and only eighteen members of Our Salon have left comments on fifteen of those 20 posts.  Excluding his rebuttals, these posts have drawn an average of four comments, and looking at these numbers, it occurred to me "What if?"

What if no one on Our Salon bothered to view his posts?   What if no one read or commented?   I wonder how long he would continue to babble his barely veiled racist nonsense inside his own personal echo chamber?  Taking it one step further:  What if the 24-7-365 mainstream media beast stopped quoting and linking to the toxic trolls on FOX News and that psychotic blood sucking tick, Rush Limbaugh?  What if mainstream corporate sponsors pulled their advertising from those outlets?

What if?  If only...

i tend to think of far right writers as i do neo-nazi marchers...give 'em the permit...i'd far rather have them thinking aloud in my presence than underground

A lot of his posts have had zero comments. As a rule, I don't generally comment if there aren't any others for exactly that reason. I don't mind saying no. It's never anything but a waste of time anyway because he isn't listening.

It might be an interesting exercize to count his Likes.

Jon, I'd never deny the permit, but I'd urge the neighborhood to turn their backs and let them march down an empty street.

Yup, if only.

Saw a great movie on Netflix  last night that fits right in here.  It's called "Hits!".  I gave it 5 stars.  I have no idea who you're talkin' about.

Kosh, Out of curiosity I went to look at his last ten posts... only 2 likes total.

Fred, I loaded a hyperlink to his latest atrocity, it's such a predictable waste of time.

Seems like a run of the mill case of psychological 'projection':

When will the people wake up and realize that {this president and his administration} have no vested interest in the welfare of the citizens of this nation only their ideological ambition which takes priority over anything that even resembles the safety or protection of the public at large.

If one of the members of the historic church in Charleston, South Carolina had been carrying a side arm, the tragedy might have been prevented

If the members of churches were armed in their Bible Studies, what if a heated disagreement over the meaning of 2 thessalonians 3;16  broke out?!

Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

JME,

The willingness of religious zealots to bring your life to a violent end to prove their righteousness, is the main reason that I have chosen to become an "existential pantheist."  I believe in every deity that has ever existed in the minds of human kind, but I still don't own a gun.

Comment by James Mark Emmerling on June 20, 2015 at 7:51pm

well, not to quibble but dont you mean Existential polytheistic pantheism?   what with your believing in every deity that ever existed in the mind of man, as I do, as Blake did, when he said , 'what man believes, he beholds?'

That's what I am, an EPP.

A 'god' is but a power that is out of one's personal control...that's weather, and that's thermodynamic processes, and that's fluid dynamics and

any other kind of dynamics we static fleshbound egos

feel subject to.

what, do you think, would be a reasonable reason to own a damn gun?

if you're aware, you can easily avoid situations where a gun might be needful.

is it really so trite as to be a phallic thing?

if so, what went wrong with one's own phallus?
