Being someone who has the capacity to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, the Democratic victory in Alabama seems too good to be true.

Roy Moore declined to show the good grace of conceding the election to Doug Jones.  He cites uncounted military and rural votes.  Roy Moore lost by 1.5 percent of the vote.  Had all of the 1.7 percent that went to write-in candidates gone for Jones the margin would have been over 3.2 percent.

There will be no automatic recount.  A recount in Alabama requires a margin of less than 0.5 percent.  Moore could call for a recount, but would have to pay for it.

Never underestimate the capacity for chicanery by losers.

Will Jones be seated in the U.S. Senate anytime soon?

I assume he'd lose a recount.

I can only repeat what I said elsewhere – Alabama entered the 21st Century without ever getting into the 20th. Unfortunately, it took a pedophile to get the state there. While I am overjoyed at the election of Doug Jones, I'm going to reserve judgment on the state of Alabama.

I saw this and I think it makes your point (using Amy-ish verbage LOL):

They didn't yesterday but it's still funny, especially given that Moore didn't lose by much.

McConnell won't permit Jones to be sworn in before 1 January 2018...

How I felt when I saw the results last night....

Was glad to donate a tiny bit to Doug Jones to help avoid this particular pedophile, Moore, getting in the Senate, and glad the results are in with no recount!

...and this morning, Mitch McConnell, the nasty shoe.

At least the tide is seeming to turn for the moment.... that is very good news.

The tax bill won't be stopped by Jones.  Voter awareness and pressure from middle class voters from the Northeast will either stop it or greatly modify it.

Jones is, by all accounts, a blue dog democrat, and he'll be up for re-election before we know it, but it is a real victory, nonetheless.

The last thing we need is another pack of blue dogs. However, Jones gets a pass as a true American Hero, prosecuting the Confederates decades after they thought they'd gotten away with one of the most cowardly crimes imaginable, a real Moore-like misdeed that was finally paid for with justice.
