Valentine Blues

Another Valentine’s Day is over

But where is my four leaf clover?

Perhaps I left it on the White Cliffs of Dover

Sadly I was way too sober,

You are the inspiration for every word of pain I write

Just as I struggle in the depths of the night,

I’m a three time loser

Beggars can never be choosers

The collateral victim

Of her abuser,

For years I hung onto what you and I had

Like some kind of innocent lad

Never seeing where it might lead

Can a heart forever bleed?

Love is an ancient merry go round

Perhaps buried like a corpse in the ground

And if you love truly from your heart

Look out fool you’ll be torn apart,

You are the inspiration for every word of pain I write

Just as I struggle in the depths of the night,

Yet am I a fool destined to repeat?

Impulsive sins that hastened my retreat

Into a world of introspective melancholy

You were the little girl worried about her dolly,

At that point perhaps you were innocent

With no intention of leaving a hurtful imprint

A wound that was so persistent

You thoughtlessly impaled my soul,

Preventing these thoughts from ever becoming whole

Yet they say wounds heal given time

When it’s a wound to the soul it becomes a rhyme

Then it becomes an event that wounds time,

You are the inspiration for every word of pain I write

Just as I struggle in the depths of the night.
