He played his guitar left handed and upside down.
This won't happen again:
RIP Dick Dale
Brian Wilson indeed, an overall musical genius. But, knew not a thing about surfing, just had a father who followed trends and was abusive as hell from all accounts.
Dick Dale- surf music; exemplified
81 years young and WILL be missed ... long live the surfer stomp
I'll need to update. I don't have any of his vinyl and my cassettes are worn out nearly.
It's been busy at The Cove. Late July weather at the end of winter.
Incredible weather this weekend, no?
Thanks for this posting. I hadn't known his name even though I've heard him play. Drives my musician brother nuts I only notice songs I like, not who is playing. I sent him a note this morning about this guy - my brother went west in early to mid-60s and jammed with some? one? of the Beach Boys before they hit big, did lighting at Monterey Pop, worked at the Troubadour, house-sat Joni Mitchell's house and cats while she was on tour - and to be fair, he would hate that I'm saying this online - erk -
.... but, had to ask if he'd run into Dick Dale.
Amazing guitarist. RIP
That may have been true about Brian Wilson. It was not true about Dennis Wilson, his brother the drummer. He surfed and drove hot rods. He was the one member of the band who actually represented what they sing about.
He was an OK surfer, not the best swimmer apparently, did massive amounts of blow, picked up hippy chicks on the side of the road at Malibu that turned out to be Manson followers, and nearly got killed for it, then did himself in. He was also once nearly killed previously by basketball star Kevin Love's Uncle, also a giant, huge, tough strong MF who played college ball, who bounced him for giving lines to Brian after being warned not to. White lines, not lyrics. One other thing, he was, and he was a surfer and in way better shape physically than the rest, they were actually chubby, the "Good Looking" Beach Boy and the teen girls went absolutely mad about him while he played drums in the background, ignoring the not so cute Mike Love and his brothers who were right up front. But, this is about the LEGEND DICK DALE & THE DEL-TONES ! a real surf band
