Updating My Lifestyle to Accommodate Fibromyalgia

I witnessed a death today, a hit and run of a wild mink by a self entitled asshole who didn't even bother to try to not hit it as it was crossing the road. I stopped my car and picked it up and raced to the veterinary clinic but I was too late, it died pretty much as soon as I put it in my car.

The first thing I learned today is that there are wild minks where I live. I had no idea this was true.

The second thing I learned is that my fibromyalgia seems to be connected to emotional trauma because I was wiped out and in pain all day today after trying to rescue that mink.

Did you know that fibromyalgia could be started by emotional or physical traumaIt encompasses depression, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, anxiety, all of which started when I was in the military, as well as insomnia, fatigue, muscle aches, and a few other things. All things that are symptoms of PTSD. And if I had had a decent general practitioner at the VA, they might have known that they were connected and I wouldn't be sitting here in so much pain now. I am going to get someone to agree that there's a link and see about upgrading my disability again.

I think I am finally going to get the disabled license plate, too, I think I am going to need access to the handicapped parking spots on occasion because walking hurts too damn much. I may just get a mirror hanger for now and see how this progresses before I commit.

Both of the doctors I have seen since July 20, the rheumatologist who diagnosed the fibromyalgia and my dermatologist, have advocated for lifestyle changes over drugs. Diet to lose weight, tai chi, yoga, and water exercises were suggested by the rheumatologist and the dermatologist prescribed two books to read; it seems he has been reading up on nutrition for the past five years as an adjunct to his profession. He suggested The Brain Maker by David Perlmutter and The Plant Paradox by Steven Gundry. (Apparently I should have ordered them through Amazon instead of shopping Barnes & Noble... I thought I could get right to them, though, since I'm not prescient and didn't know Dad was going to topple.) Anyhow, the derm guy said that he and his wife have been following these books for three months and her autoimmune disease has cleared up. He also wants me to take a brisk 30-minute walk every day. Have you ever seen someone with a fever try to walk? That's what it feels like for me when shit's acting up so maybe no walking on those days.

I hope I can get a start on all of this in the next few days. I am going to have to mow my yard this weekend since I can't get a-hold of the guy who said he would do it. From what his wife intimated, they seem to think that since they can see it from their house then they don't have to mow it on any kind of schedule. Who knows, since I couldn't pin her down on anything. I just know that it's still not mowed, it's been 8 days since the last trim, so I will be out tugging the mower around tomorrow after counseling. I have an appointment with a landscaper Monday to see about new flower beds and his website says lawn maintenance, too, so maybe I'll get lucky. Saturday will be a haircut so I'm going to try to do some other stuff, too, and then Sunday's plans include catching up on all of the rest I've missed out on. I think that's a worthy goal for a day of rest. Just ask the universe to keep the rain away until late Friday after the sun sets so I can get the mowing done.

Synovial fluid. It hit me this morning as I was limbering up my feet that this could be something to look into.

I wish you luck with that. I recently swerved on the road to miss a small animal like that. Don't know if it was a mink, otter, or weasel. Moving too fast to get a good look.

Sorry to learn of the affliction, Phyllis.  Friend of girlfriend's reports 'some 'fib' relief' with those new-fangled socks.  Who knows why? & thank goodness you weren't bitten nor smitten handling Ms. Mink!

Poor mink :( You were a good critter samaritan to try to take it to the vet. Sorry he didn't make it.

Re: fibromyalgia. I hope that you start feeling better, now that you have a diagnosis and some treatment options. Does your hospital have an integrative medicine department? There’s one at my hospital, also at my cancer center. They offer things like mind body workshops, acupuncture, nutrition–which was helpful when my weight dropped to 95 pounds from nausea caused by heart meds. People I met had auto immune system disorders, GI conditions, back problems, mostly chronic conditions. Medical centers are finally getting on this which is a good thing.

Any Fred sightings?

I go to the VA, and Dad has gotten acupuncture from them so I think they do have some integrative clinics. I will ask my GP to refer me. Thanks for the reminder.

And yes to Fred sighting!!!!! Yesterday while mowing a monarch was going back and forth between front and back yards!! I was just thrilled. :) :) :)

JP, I have a pair of copper socks at work and they are miraculous. I need to get more of them. And I was very careful with the mink, covered fully with a towel and ready to jerk away as I touched it.

kosh, excellent instincts.

Terry, my GP suggested throwing antidepressants at me as a diagnostic tool, I refused because I hate them. I do need to get busy with the holistic angle, though. I have to try that first.
