I saw this today in an online trade magazine I get:

The link talks about facial recognition technology. The Chinese police just picked a guy out of a crowd of 50,000 people using it. Shocked the Hell out of the guy, apparently.

Considerably more sinister than you think. This link came from a friend a few days before:

Did you have any idea that China executes more people than the rest of the world combined? A lot more. The number of Chinese executions is a state secret but the low estimate is more than quadruple the rest of the world’s combined total. The estimate for China last year is three to five thousand, the rest of the world's total was about seven hundred. And a lot of this doesn't exactly involve due process.

Big Brother could be watching you, especially if you live in China.

Could be?

When we lived in the PRC the gov't's English Language paper, China Daily, was frank abt the policy and practice, particularly during periods of "cracking down on official corruption".

The sole reason, too, that Singapore's numbers are so much lower is that Singapore is so much smaller.

They're as high per capita? China is 22x the US per capita, not raw numbers.
