Turn to them the other cheek: Lawrence O'Donnell on Trump's latest attack tweet

MV Neland has posted his take on this:

I believe that it deserves a second look with a question:

When attacked, Do you turn the other cheek or, do you fight back?

Looks like this one is a double post waiting to be deleted.

I'm completely flabbergasted at this point.

For real Ron or hypothetically? verbal or physical?

Grandma taught me to turn the other cheek. Got my ass handed to me outside Bible School.

Dad taught his little brother to fight and he was a welterweight champion. I took some tips and learned to defend myself.

Neither works in the end.

I usually walk away from arguments before they turn into fights.  As my grandfather always said, "Never argue with drunks, fools or pigs.  You just end up down in the mud and the pigs like it."

Overblown at times but good points.

The shared last name might have heightened awareness.

Do you mean before or after I knee them in the nuts???  I'm a lot more like Alice than I am Mother Theresa.

So you're showing us your non-demure side?

@SBA; Understandable,....

Turning the other cheek can get old and it's quite possiblw that you might no get to grow old doing it....

I'm not sure that turning the other cheek teaches a bully anything but that there is another opportunity to cause pain to the persons who are the objects of the bully.
I'm not advocating violence back, either.
In the middle has to be some kind of swift and consistent censure of the bully, by the objects and all witnesses.

My question is, why isn't that happening on a large enough scale to make a difference?

@TM; I learned early on to use my brain and wits as weaponry....

I'm short, black, and Cathoki.  No real reason to do more than win the arguments and avoid the fights....

Retreating with the correct retort was my favorite and often best tactic...
