To Send Letters of Support to the Parkland Kids....

Someone tweeted this - thought worth sharing for those who want to reach out to these kids:

"I was contacted on Facebook by a teacher from Stoneman Douglas High in Florida. She would love it if her students had letters of support when they return. Please send to:

Diane Wolk-Rogers
Stoneman Douglas High School
5901 Pine Island Road
Parkland, Florida 33076

Thank you" ❤

they're going to be swamped with letters!  but she's opened a door and I'm jumping in to tell them they're not alone and that us old farts are right behind them-wobbly as we may be.  hahahahah!

J.P. Hart, no heart, or like the grinch just too sizes too small?  Or is this your way of making a joke?

Did you never listen to George W. Bush?  It's a newclear family and a new-cue-lur physicist.

I once was a member of the NRA (and the AMA).  And then I realized that members of both had no voice; the organizations were controlled by those with vested interests who wanted nothing to change...  I want to make a change for two reasons: I want to help make school as carefree as it was when I was young, when your biggest worry was over which side you were chosen for in Red Rover, and I want to hurt the gun lobby.  And, personally, I have tow granddaughters who are still in school.

Anything else that I had to say would take a separate post.

Anna, I've deleted several of my late PM comments as inappropriate. I'm in a downward spiral and need to work on my intellectual stamina, without impinging your very good efforts to take away the hurt.

Monkey, exactly, "to tell them they are not alone."  I like your enthusiasm  : )

Jon  : )

Rodney, I, too, would like school to go back to being known as a place of learning, not to mention a place where families can at least assume their kids are alive and will stay that way. I also have two grandgirls who are just starting school...

P, your comment disappeared. I'd written replies ... but then they all disappeared, too. Not sure whether you erased or the machine erased.... regardless, this I posted, purely, not as a start to anything but rather a reaching out to let these teens know they are cared about, for anyone who wants.

J.P., I didn't see any of your comments. I 'get' spiraling down and have barely been hanging on myself this week. I've been avoiding media and screens, not writing or working, have gone hiking instead in beautiful wild places and now that it's bloody cold outside, am painting the laundry room and back bathroom.

And intellectual stamina... can appear impressive on the surface, and can be wonderful, but.... far too often imho it seems to be just talking heads with a self congratulatory aspect unless there is a living connection to the heart and humanity in and of the topic. Far too easy to talk, theorize, suggest, make pronouncements, get carried away with the discourse, while forgetting the humanity....  give me a sensitive soul, any day.

Thank you for the note, though : )

And thanks for coming by folks ~ painting again today...

coping skills...?

I will be sending a note, or notes, to the high school, even though I find it very hard to even know what to say. but that must be gotten over.

I think it imperative we get out of our own box and reach out, though, however we do, especially if we're saying a bunch of words about how tragic it all is and how much we *care*......

the only way these kids will know that is to reach out.

My mother always swore that her depression lifted faster the minute she helped someone who needed to be cared about.... so I will listen. and DO.

(as mom rolls over in her grave as she said I never listened... ha!)

Anna, I have been writing lots of letters this year, enough that I'm pretty sure I'm on some surveillance list of dangerous anarchist rabble rousers by now. That's fine.

I will hand out this address in class today. The people that high school kids admire the most are college kids, way more than old ladies. Maybe we will draw on our letters :)

greenie, I read recently that Monsanto subpoenaed an organization/Avaaz for the list of everyone who had signed any anti-GMO petitions. They are freaking out at the growing body of evidence they, Monsanto, lied, colluded, bullied the BS reports and studies of how safe their poisons are that GMO crops need to even make it to harvest....not to mention the truth is coming out that GMO crops do NOT do better than organic crops, that GMO yields eventually fail badly, the soil depleted, people suffer - just like some other powerful bullies and liars are doing in attempts to protect their secretive and terrible agendas.

I expect I'm on a list, too.

And thank you for spreading the address on to your class.

I hope the kids at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High are inundated with letters of care and support.

I think I will print out the address and post it on my bulletin board. I have lots of college kids going trough every day.
