Ths smartest thing the Republican leadership could do

Yeah, I'm posting a lot today. What the Hell, I'm feeling prollific.

If the Republican leadership wanted to get an optimal result for them, they could get a bunch of Republican leaders together for one TV ad. The Bushes, George F. Will, the Congressional leadership who was willing, the Governors who were willing. The only common denominator has to be that they oppose Donald Trump.

Each speak a sentence in turn.

"We are faced with an unusual election. Our party has nominated a man who is not qualified to be President and who would make an awful President, endangering American democracy, governing counter to American values, and destroying America's relations with our allies. Hillary Clinton will make a better President than Donald Trump would.

"However, we are Republicans. We know it is better for the country if our party retains control of both houses of Congress. So this is what we want you to do:"

"Vote but split your vote. Vote for Hillary for President but vote Republican on the rest of your ballot.

"Doing thins represents the best you can do for your country. We need to stop Donald Trump and we need to keep Congress.

"Vote Hillary for President, Republicans for everything else. But please vote. Your country needs you."

They probably won't do this. If they did, they could have their cake and eat it. And they might be able to save their party.

I'm sure some are doing just that on a smaller scale at the local level.

The R Party won't dream of it as long as the race is close; should Trump win they  won't consider a second's reflection,

They are voting for Trump because they love him...or they are thinking they can impeach him and then have Pense.   We forget how many really do adore him.  ...and hate Hillary.

I think the supreme court is the huge issue for all of them. That is what is most sure to affect our whole society for the next 40-50 years.

So, essentially what you are saying is that Hillary should seek the endorsement of the Antichrist, the architect of destruction both in our economy and in the middle east, against whose evil empire Obama has fought so long and so valianntly, ( if, judging by the resuts, futilely) for his whole administration?

Sounds like a plan to me.

Just watched "the Aviator" on HBO, essentially a morality play about the persecution of Leonardo dicaprio (Howard Hughes/Donald Trump) by the forces of corrupt government in the person of Alan Alda ( Seantor Brewsterof maine? Harry Reid of Nevada)

I love basically carpet chewing performances in the aid of "Doing what'sRight!)

Watch it if you have the opportunity , don't forget your nausea medication. (Remind me again who Dicaprio and Alda are tellling us to vote for?)

PS it isn't about liking Trump. it's about containing the Clinton Cholera. Voting for Hillary is voting for two years of nonstop investigation and indictment, until the 2018 midterm elecctions gives the republicans a supermajority in the house and senate and he presidency becomes irrelevant. (as it was meant to be)

But they won't, which is very good for the USA -- at least not publicly that I know of. Kochs, Adelson, et. al. have poured billions into down ticket races. But I am thinking that Trump revulsion is so deep that more people will vote straight D.

Trump is gaining and he has an extra shot very few people are taking into account at the moment: There's a mass transit strike in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania is a swing state, Philadelphia is heavily Democratic, and the Black population is likely to be disproportionately dependent on mass transit, meaning the strike could swing the state on numbers.

Token,
I'm not suggesting Hillary do anything of the sort. She'd be crazy and irresponsible to cut her own coattails. I'm saying that the Republican establishment should do this without even discussing it with Hillary. It's their best shot at saving both houses of Congress, and it has the further advantage of keeping Trump out of the White House.

Zanelle,
Those who adore him do not include the Republican establishment, most of whom hate him. The Bushes we already know are likely to vote for Hillary. The Kochs can't stand Trump. Wall Street hates him. Dick Cheney called his stand on Muslims "unAmerican." There are a lot of prominent Republicans who want to see Hillary win but Congress stay Republican.

That's a relief. That strike scared the Hell out of me.
