Introduction

If there is a universal problem with people in the 21st century, it’s that they simply don’t think. I should qualify that by saying, they don’t think the right way. They don’t think of the consequences of their thoughts, of their words, of their actions. They don’t understand the awesome creative power of their thoughts.

All creatures are supplied at birth with everything they need for survival and for success. All creatures except man are supplied with instincts that do the job for them, so they don’t have to do much thinking.

That is not true of man. Man was given a brain which gives him the godlike power to shape his own life according to the thoughts and images he holds in his mind.

Consider for a moment the things your mind has brought you: your family, your friends, your religion, your philosophy of life and your work.

Research at the UCLA Brain Research Institute suggests that the creative power of the brain may be limitless. If that is true, and I believe it is, our thoughts are truly an awesome creative force.

Man has an unbelievable potential that is determined or held in check by his thoughts. Everything we have and everything we don’t have is the result of our thoughts.

This makes man unique among the animals, because we will become, we will achieve, what we think about.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Archibald McLeish had a character in one his plays say, “The only thing about a man that is a man is his mind. Everything else you can find in a pig or a horse.”

The human mind with its capacity to think separates us from the rest of the animals on Earth.

The writer of Proverbs observed this centuries ago when he wrote, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he . . .”

More than 100 years ago, James Allen, a little-known English writer devoted many hours, maybe even years, meditating on this Bible verse, and wrote a little volume titled As A Man Thinketh, which has literally changed the lives of millions of people.

Your thoughts will change your life. This is exciting, because you can control your thoughts.

This book is a thought-for-thought paraphrased version of As A Man Thinketh, the timeless classic by James Allen.
