According to a recent NY Review article, what US billionaire* once made that remark about customers eager to give up personal information? Was it:

Bezos
Gates
Jobs
Koch
Musk
Soros
Zuckerberg

* Donald Trump is not on this list because I question whether he's a billionaire at all. Otherwise, he'd have been my first choice.

No.  No I don't!

don't know, but i'd guess Gates is the only one on the list who DIDN'T say it...

Definitely Zuckerberg, the biggest reason I never signed on to facebook, that exact quote of his at age what, 19?

And he's exactly the same today, as his 'but *you* gave me your information' as he said last month in questioning confirms...

I would only ask this

we'll be free,

won't we, guys?

Oh, I give various social media all kinds of information, Amy. Just none of it's real.

True that, Breeze. I've always had some respect for Gates (and Musk too, come to that).

Nailed it, JT. I checked FB out after Open folded (under an assumed name, of course) and was less than impressed with everything from security to privacy. I read his bio a couple of years ago, and came away feeling kind of sick. In the end, his testimony will have zero net result -- other perhaps than for cosmetics -- for reasons that NYT Review article that quoted him laid out in detail. In other words, the incestuous military/government/Silicon Valley love affair.

Freedom is always good, JP.

Meh, it is what it is. I can't believe anyone is shocked that FB would allow an outside company to mine personal data. Mining data means money and let's face it, Zuck is all about the bucks as most millionaire/billionaire/zillionaires are. Companies have been mining personal data ever since we invented the words...mining and data...so why is this such a shocker? As for FB, well I use it as a way to keep up with friends and far flung family and it works for me. So if Zuck wants to make money from my info, he can get in line. He's not the first and won't be the last I'm sure.

Hello David!

Bo, I will say it was the thought of my wildly politically-and-in-every-other-area diverse extended family, plus having groups of friends about the same that was first reason why I thought facebook sounded like a nightmare...all those opinions and on and on in the same feed and seeing each other? Ack! Way to stir up trouble. And I'm not so into re-finding those from my past so much, either, although there are a few I wonder about...

Then I learned more and my son read the bio and I felt a bit sick, too, with some of what he said....although I'm on instagram so any self righteousness has been tossed out the window ; ) and I thought, enough. I at least won't add this to my life. I'm always trying to get outside more anyway.

My family emails with me. Old school. texts... we phone... Instagram. ...sadly also a facebook-owned site, with new and improved ways to eradicate privacy - but just photos is so much easier to take, imho. Mine are flowers and the coast, pretty much. They just sent me note saying they *aren't* using facial recognition but they will let me know when they do. !!! and 'yeah right' all at the same time.

but keeping in touch is why most people I know are on facebook, I get that, and plus you find out what the nieces and nephews are *really* like!

I guess SANDS didn't make the list.  That reminds me - gotta roll some pennies!  ha ha

The only reason I might not have guessed Zuckerberg is because it’s too obvious.
