As a conservative, I feel like I should be giving more of a crap about the Trump victory but I don't feel it matters. At the Federal level, all politicians are scum and while Hillary would not have been as bad a president as many of my fellow conservatives think, Trump will not suck as bad as the left thinks.

That is not saying much, however.

Even if we "fix" healthcare and can somehow manage a 50% reduction in premium across the board, employers have been too used to getting rid of full time workers and replacing them with part-time 28hr/week or less workers. I am not expecting much full time job growth. Some companies have pledged to add employees since Trump won, but we will see how this actually plays out. Several Trump appointees are pro-immigration and while it appears that Trump will deport some of the violent criminal illegals, as he should, the rest will be staying and the temporary worker visa program will be expanded so more high paying jobs will go out the window.

Taking the current world situation in totality, we will be looking at some type of continuous military conflict in one of several theaters.

as to Greatness, your standards seem rather low

Jonathan, my standards are low. Terry, perhaps we can try the German example. Yes Angry, we need 3-4 million new jobs to put a dent in it.

The problem appears to be that relocating a lot of manufacturing in the US will mean a great deal more automation, which limits job growth. If the jobs are all low paying, it can't help enough because we need to increase domestic demand.

It's going to get interesting Kosher. I have been grossly underemployed since 2010 and work in a physically demanding warehouse environment. We'very never been able to keep a millennial employee new hire for more than a week. There's no reason our entire operation could not be automated within the next 5-7 years.

The only real job growth I can forsee is in the prison industrial complex where we will add several million 35 cents an hour prison workers within the next few years.

True Angry. Terry, I hope I can find time to further discuss these issues with you.

Terry, I AM a conservative, but have become less hardened on certain issues. With all illegals removed and no more anchor babies, the savings could be used to provide completely subsidized college education for those who are actually able to do college level work.

As for health care, we should give everyone a Medicare card and have it also kick in when your medical costs exceed 100k, regardless of age. Private insurance should be allowed unrestricted competition and should be able to pool together to purchase meds. Private insurance could pay up to 100k, then medicare picks up the catastrophic costs.

High tariffs should be used to restrict imports to encourage domestic manufacturing..

Rather than a faux conservative like Ronnie Rayguns and George "What me worry?" W Bush, you come across more like a Progressive Republican in the mold of Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and George HW Bush.

JMAC, people tend to forget that political differences are irrelevant if we don't have a functioning country. I'll consider modification of some views to facilitate the greater good.

It seems to me that compromise is what has preserved our republic and the ability to compromise is something we seem to be losing over the past couple of decades.  But... we survived the Civil War, WWII and Vietnam so I expect we'll survive the next four years.  Sending you a friend request.
