The Past

The past glory and pain that can never last

The past the past the past

Pushing it back pushing it back

But like a poisonous snake

It keeps on striking back!

What was never intended to last

Memories like a mold that's been cast,

When I look at you and I

Should I laugh or should I cry

Only the blame you can deny,

Another Christmas arrived and past by

Moments of love and defeated sighs

Have another drink and listen to the lies

Of Past broken family ties

It's the casualties I despise,

Everything happens for a reason they say

Everything will be okay

Yet it goes on day after day

Christmas has permanently gone away

Remembering all that will never stay,

The past the past the past!

Made of memories that can never last

Waking up in the empty night aghast

This is the metal die that was cast

What seemed fun is now a blast,

From a regrettable past

Comes everything that cannot last

Do what's right in the present

So that your memories are pleasant

Only miracles are heaven sent.

We can't live in the past; we can only learn from it. Hope you have a great 2018 Doc, your prose has been an excellent start.

Well, Doc, aside from Maui being right, I think you learned one thing late in 2017, and that's that you are one of us.
