After watching both the Democratic and Republican debates, it was hard not to be struck by the contrast in the tone of the two events. Contrast the civility of last night's debate to the Republicans jumping all over each other trying to see who can spew out the most hate, fear and thinly-vailed bigotry. Contrast what the people on stage last night hoped for the world as opposed to the Republican message of hate and mistrust of women, of people of color, of anyone who is not Christian, of immigrants, of workers, of science and reason, of education and educators, of societal safety nets and of their fellow human beings. Think about these contrasts and about what kind of world you want to see. One of people helping, supporting and caring for one another or the Republican vision of ignorance, disguised bigotry, suspicion and hatred of your fellow man, of feeling I've got mine and screw you. The bottom line here is, please take a moment and just contrast how you felt when you finished hearing the debate last night as opposed to the Republican debates.
