After watching both the Democratic and Republican debates, it was hard not to be struck by the contrast in the tone of the two events. Contrast the civility of last night's debate to the Republicans jumping all over each other trying to see who can spew out the most hate, fear and thinly-vailed bigotry. Contrast what the people on stage last night hoped for the world as opposed to the Republican message of hate and mistrust of women, of people of color, of anyone who is not Christian, of immigrants, of workers, of science and reason, of education and educators, of societal safety nets and of their fellow human beings. Think about these contrasts and about what kind of world you want to see. One of people helping, supporting and caring for one another or the Republican vision of ignorance, disguised bigotry, suspicion and hatred of your fellow man, of feeling I've got mine and screw you. The bottom line here is, please take a moment and just contrast how you felt when you finished hearing the debate last night as opposed to the Republican debates.

A Republican commentator on CNN last night (Anna Navaro) said she had *debate envy*.  The contrast was...(words fail me).

disguised bigotry?

They disguised it?
I must be awfully perceptive
because I saw right through it.

The really sad, and frightening, thing is that, at the end of the day, nearly half of the voting public will go for whoever, and whatever, the Republicans trot out as their candidate and platform.

How any working class, or middle class, anybody can vote for any of the bigots, bumpkins, or bullshitters the Republicans will nominate is a complete mystery to me.

Republicans clearly want this country to become a race-base, plutocratic-oligarchy, with a distinctly Christian religious orientation.

Isn't that how the Nazis got a strangle hold on political power in Germany?

Doesn't half the population have below average IQs, Ron?

I think the unvarying R voters of which you speak, many of them at least, vote exclusively on abortion and pay no attention to anything else. Except they might believe all D voters are on welfare which takes up 90% of their tax payments. (we're getting stuff, you know)

AS I see it, its simply divide and conquer.  Just tell these half-wits that the reason things seem to be going to hell is because some Mexican slipped across the boarder and is washing dishes somewhere in San Diego, or that you have people living in this country who don't believe exactly the same as you and that appears to be all it takes.  Fire up the hate.
