One of the enduring hallmarks of American Democracy is the peaceful and seamless transition when one president leaves office and the newly elected president is inaugurated. This often occurs within the context of a change in the political party taking control of the reins of government. Much of the world marvels at how this occurs without vitriol and violence.

The danger of Trump's candidacy is that he and his followers/supporters threaten the stability of the peaceful transition. Trump has rejuvenated and retrofitted the old racist and bigoted paradigms with new desire and willingness to openly, and sometimes violently, express white privilege and primacy without regard to political process or social constraint.

If and when they lose, they are prepared and willing to pick up the torches and pitchforks and storm the citadel ranting and chanting their mantra of build the wall, America first etc....

The inauguration of 2017 will be quite different from past ceremonies where the presence of police and military personnel in riot gear was totally unnecessary.

I'm not even sure we'll make it past the Republican convention without a pitchfork & torch riot.

Looking at the bright side, if either Trump or Cruz gets the nomination, both would likely lose to HRC in a landslide.

@JMac; My point precisely! The neanderthals that folow/support Trump are being told that losing is not an option. And, since defeat would be unacceptable, that it would be alright to trash the process and the system. They're being told that the government is not legitimate if it isn't made up of the people they want in office.

The essence of being an 'outsider' is not being obligated to abide by any rules or hold with any precedent in the electoral or governmental process or traditions.

It's simply going to be mired in vitriolic dissention and get messy in the streets...

I hope it doesn't occur, tho watching the Black Helicopters swoop down on the rioters and bring them all to the Secret FEMA Camps would be a side-show delight.

I certainly understand your concern but I'm not exactly sure what trump is or isn't.

to be totally honest with you, my feelings are very mixed and I wonder what trump is about.  I don't want you to think I'm thinking about him because I want to vote for him - but I find his the most curious candidacy I've ever witnessed and I do spend a good deal of time thinking about trump, his strategy, who he is, who he's shown himself to be in the past and who he says he is now.  I don't know.  it doens't add up.  his strategy is clear.  he will evolve or metamorphose into whatever kind of creature he thinks he needs to be.  it's entirely subjective and I believe, entirely spontaneous.  this is a remarkable campaign.  I've got some time today and i think I'm going to write about him, because I'm carefully watching and evaluatinng.  i'm not a political expert but I'm damn good at marketing and feeling out trends.  I have a sense of him but not a complete picture.

you're right - his followers will upset the cart if he doens't get the nomination, but what might be revealed in his presidential candidacy may or may not please the voters that will get him into that position.  I don't assume anything about him - much less about his platform or how he will proceed after cleveland.

@FM ; My focus/concern here is not Trump, but the angry mobs of white folks he will leave behind when he is finally forced to leave center stage of the political arena.

In my view, he'll leave them with no where to go but the streets where they'll be met/ confronted with the folks who have been identified/characterized as protesters at Trump rallies and gatherings.

It ain't gonna be pretty to watch and at the end of the day not very entertaining either...

Law enforcement, god bless 'em, will probably side with the Trumpsters. That will serve to exacerbate an already volatile situation.....

Oh, not to worry; they won't scoop me up.

"He will evolve or metamorphose into whatever kind of creature he thinks he needs to be."

Totally agree, FM.

What is even scarier is that he probably be competing in the national election against $Hillary, an equally skilledchameleon and liar.  NOBODY knows where either of them really stands because they have both flip-flopped and re-flip-flopped so damn much on virtually every issue.

The reason that is so scary is because neither of them has a moral or ethical compass.  In other words, they'd both kill their own mothers to get their own way and that world view is perfectly fine with their equally lost at sea supporters.
