What Orange Julius Caesar hath wrought. Nazi rides again.
That thread goes forever.
And no, the Nazis didn't try to scrub out the scratches. The sonderkommandos did.

Comment wasn't nasty. Comment was off topic to the extent that I could decipher it at all. If you have your own topics, write a post. We shouldn't even be discussing this on Robert's blog.

I've had computer viruses but I don't think I've ever been hacked per se. I don't know who here knows about hacking. My technical computer knowledge is lousy. When Keiko was still here, she knew about that stuff. I think Amy's knowledge is pretty good. Back when we did Readers' Picks, I wrote the explanations (after we agreed what we wanted to say) and she set up the site because I had no idea how.
Do your kids know computers well enough to help?
The media has shown itself to be woefully inadequate re its constitutionally protected role as watchdog and reporters of abuses of authority and power, malfeasance re fiduciary respoonsiblities and obligations, and betrayals of the public's trust. ...
In a word, the performance of the media to date has been 'shameful'.
to be Shamed.
I haven't read the NYT article that "inspired" the raging tweets, but I don't need to read it to know that a lot of seemingly normal and decent people are racists – at least. I know racism is alive an unwell because I'm surrounded by it, though I must say that even here the word "nigger" doesn't get thrown around like it used to. Political correctness has it's benefits.
If you'll forgive my getting personal again, my father was a lifelong Teamster and a life-long yellow-dog Democrat, but he was also a true son of the South, who voted for George Wallace in '68. I suspect he was also a Reagan Democrat, though I can't say for sure. And whatever else anyone thinks of Reagan, his success was in part due to his ability to blow a dog-whistle pretty loudly.
Oddly enough, just this morning, my sister and I had a discussion about Dad, and we disagreed about whether he would have voted for Obama. My take? He would likely have voted for McCain in 2008, but I doubt seriously he would have voted for Romney in 2012. And I'm pretty sure he would not have voted for Trump, but I wouldn't guarantee it.
What's this got to do with the subject at hand – Neo-Nazis? I'm trying to point out that this shit is complicated, and that someone can be a racist or a white-supremacist without being a Nazi. Obviously, that's not intended as a justification of racism, white supremacists, and Nazis. And as far as I'm concerned, racism is not to be tolerated because you can't have Nazism without first having racism.
It's become something of a joke in our family, but my wife once asked my dad to please stop using the word "nigger" around her. He replied that she was prejudiced, too – she was prejudiced against prejudiced people.
If you're looking for a sliver of a silver lining in all this, none of my sisters or brothers have been infected with Dad's racism. I take that as a sign of hope.

I think that now goes by the term, "what-about-ism". previously mentioned (in other essays), is Kurt Andersen's "Fantasyland" (http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/interrogation/2017/...), in which he makes the historical argument that we're in this alternative-fact mess because the notion of freedom of speech devolved into freedom to think and say anything, irregardless of reality. the country has been through this more than once. you can read his book or delve into the wiki, starting with this bit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_fundamentalism
