The Agenda with Steve Paikin Published on Sep 12, 2018
The Agenda welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges, who over the past decade and a half has made his name as a columnist, activist and author. He's been a vociferous public critic of presidents on both sides of the American political spectrum, and his latest book, America, the Farewell Tour, is nothing short of a full-throated throttling of the political, social, and cultural state of his country.

18:50/   it's about reintegration, it's about taking this dispossessed huge segment of American population and reintegrating them into the country, but of course the opposite is happening...

19:43/27:42  The only way to battle the christian right, which i see as a christianized fascist force, is to counter the magical thinking of the christian right

Politics is a game of fear. Those who do not have the ability to make power elites afraid do not succeed. All of the movements that opened up the democratic space in America—the abolitionists, the suffragists, the labor movement, the communists, the socialists, the anarchists and the civil rights movement—developed a critical mass and militancy that forced the centers of power to respond. The platitudes about justice, equality and democracy are just that. Only when power becomes worried about its survival does it react. Appealing to its better nature is useless. It doesn’t have one.

21:48/27:42 Host question: Are you advocating the overthrow of the United States government?  CLH answer: i'm advocating advocating the overthrow of a corporate government,, i'm advocating the reversal of the corporate coup d'état,, in slow motion.

22:19/ Host question: If the Great Recession 2008 'til whenever, and all the corporate kleptocracy that Wall Street got away with there, and how mainstreet had to pay for it,, wasn't enough to get people to propel people to rise up and overthrow the corporate government, what will?  CLH answer: The next crash, 'n we're gettin' one.  I don't know when, but it's coming, and this time around the elites don't have a Plan B.

25:23Empires are always fragile. They depend on control of foreign labor, foreign resources, ...within American society 26:51/  we are a deeply violent culture, awash in weapons,, we believe in the regeneration through violence, this myth that violence is a form of purification and that comes out of our long history of genocide and slavery,, we killed ninety percent of indigenous peoples in the United States and enslaved four million Africans. We've never really confronted that dark aspect in American history, we cling to our national myths.

.........

A lot of Plan B's only look like plans in retrospect after multiple doomed-to-fail options have exhausted the trust of the governed, drawn dry the well of hope to feed lies and past due wagers betting against reality.

If it ever did, the United States doesn't have a helmsman or crew guiding Humanity on a unifying purpose...  that's an ideal of socialist economy which is antithetical to, the death knell

The wall on the southern border of the U.S. forty-eight contiguous states defines what is really United States' "backyard".  United States' backyard is that which lay inside, not beyond, the fences and walls of its southern states' southern property lines.  The United States is not Canada's backyard.  Switzerland and France and not Germany's backyard.  Good neighbors do not claim the yards of others as their backyard.
