The shutdown of the Federal government continues, with no obvious end in sight. If it continues much longer, we will see the end of the Obama economic boom. Already Hairball's Chief Economic Adviser/Lackey admits the country might experience zero growth during the first quarter of 2019.

And who and what do we have to "thank" for this economic downturn, not to mention the needless pain and suffering inflicted on 800,000 Federal workers, 1,200,000 Federal contract workers, their families, and the millions more Americans whose incomes are affected negatively by this shutdown? Hairball, and his idiotic obsession with his wall, an obsession that in the end has ensnared him, trapping him like the cornered rat he is, a cornered rat being poked by the likes of Limbaugh and Coulter.

And to be far more fair than Hairball deserves and more honest than I want to be, he's also getting poked by Nancy Pelosi, who took a slice out his massive behind and ego by postponing the State of the Union Address. Taking away his chance to pretend to act like a president, getting on TV with a massive national audience watching, had to infuriate Hairball, though it must be said, he appears to be thisclose to blowing a fuse at every moment. Indeed, he looks like a likely candidate for a massive heart attack.

So here we are in this senseless stand-off, waiting to see who will break first. Logic would dictate that Pelosi might be first to capitulate, since she has both a conscience and empathy, neither of which Hairball has. I know from first-hand experience that negotiating with a person who has no conscience is a extremely difficult proposition. When one side doesn't care who gets hurt – as long as it's not them – you are at a significant disadvantage.

But – one thing suggests Hairball might be first to blink – his precipitous slide in the polls; he's down nearly ten points in a month, and he didn't have much room to spare. If he has any chance of getting re-elected, and he desperately wants to get re-elected, so as to avoid prosecution and retain the pardon power, he can ill-afford to lose a significant portion of the 35%-40% of the electorate that inexplicably continues to support him.

Clearly, Hairball is looking for a way out of the mess he created, all the while squealing like the stuck pig he is.

I'm curious Tom. How would the US experience zero growth in 2019 when todays employment announcement shows unemployment figures down again even with the shut down? Oh, and when Trump offered to pay all the federal employees currently on furlough Nancy Pelosi denied the legislation to move forward. Gosh Tom it seems that everything you people here attempt to blame President Trump for is based on the denial of the facts, your sheer hatred of a President who has far surpassed any fledgling achievement by the charlatan Obama, and not to mention that you people don't give a damn about the best interests of the American public only a very small swatch of America hating extremists, sexual deviants, and self professed victims while all the hard working responsible people can just go to hell. Tom, that's so disingenuous.

As a friend pointed out to me today, what’s about to happen is way more dangerous than anything anticipated, because in a few days funding runs out for the judiciary, giving Trump free rein.

Doc   You didn't read the post very well. I didn't write all of 2019, only the first quarter. And I didn't say it, it was said by Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, during an interview with CNN. He was asked whether he believes there could be “zero growth” if the government remains shut down through the first quarter.

“Yes, we could. Yes,” Hassett responded. “If it extended for the whole quarter and given the fact that the first quarter tends to be low because of residual seasonality, then you could end up with a number very close to zero in the first quarter.”

Brother Tom: President Drone is clearly insane. Not that there is anything wrong with being insane, but generally speaking insane people should not be expected to act rationally just because they are wealthy or powerful.

The walls are closing in on President Drone, and his delusional world is falling apart. Pelosi is doing the right thing, like putting him in time out. He seems to be understanding that there is now an adult in his world who he cannot fire or destroy.

I am thinking he might be finally realizing that he has been out played. He has no idea how he got into this mess, this some point he has to face reality,  the  noose is tightening. I don’t think President Drone will ever realize that how badly he has been duped and conned by at very least the Russians, who have been been remotely operating him for decades.

For the sake of the planet...we need a team of psychologists to manage at least a deprograming of this almost  Manchurian operator.  I sure hope Pelosi is speaking to the best in the psychology business as she tries to bring him down, for all of our sakes.

Kosh   Ordinary citizens will likely suffer in the courts long after the shutdown ends. Thanks to McConnell, the Federal judiciary is being stacked with hardcore Conservatives, who are likely to do far more damage than just reversing Roe. This will affect voter suppression, environmental regulation, gender equity, gay rights, and on and on and on. The election of Hairball made Grover Norquist's wet dreams a reality.

RBJ  I prefer to think of Hairball as the Boychurian Candidate. The secret phrase that puts him in robotic mode is Trump Tower. Putin has played him for a fool for at least a decade; I'd bet a Benjamin Trump Tower Moscow never gets built. But at least Hairball got a fun night at the Ritz out of the non-deal.

Boychruian...almost Manchurian...ok, and it is all about those fun nights. Bond always got his...after he turned a trick for Britain, so why not?  A long legged hooker wife...that’s awesome too. I had a boss who married a Vegas show girl...his prize. I sold what I had to, bit not my soul.

The trick in the field was being dirty enough to avoid being thought the enemy, which was mostly the feds, who had their own agenda...certainly not brilliant most the time. The razors edge was being there, and objective...holding the ground. NJ had imported up and comers from all over the world to do science and engineering. These folks gave...and took, but had baggage...lots of baggage. Paperclip...on steroids.

Wrangling a globally sourced reptile zoo...well that’s not easy. The MIC tried everything...and I mean everything to keep its edge razor sharp. Lots of mistakes...walking around those streets. Making command and control systems  has a serious downside. Human resource abuses come back to roost...or never leave home at all.

Beyond our short sighted obsession with President Drone there is Putin the patsy. Who runs him?  I’d sure like to see that operating system. The Russians built a better version of the dictator then we expected, unless we built him out of spare parts. Who knows? It’s all so B movie, really.

I’m far more interested in fish than folly, but if we don’t keep an eye on them, these mandroids will wipe us all out.

RBJ  Hairball is clearly a boy, not a man. I doubt he'd last a day in my neighborhood, then or now ... blue-collar Michigan then, or Redneck backwoods now. With his goofy hair, his smart-ass mouth, his constant whining, and his spoiled little rich kid ways, he'd be considered a pussy, and one of the home-boys In either place would definitely grab hold of him and teach him some manners.

I've been pissed at both sides for using regular folks in increasingly desperate straits as political pawns when the ones in power aren't wondering how to feed their kids or keep a roof over their heads.... but I get how and why the standoff occurs. I just don't see enough assurance for these people they will be taken care of, their houses not lost, for their lives being ruined by the powerful in the name of achieving something good. Who's calling their landlords or mortgage companies? Too much to ask for? For federal workers especially? Paid only enough to live paycheck to paycheck? (I hear my uncle now: You, Anna, are a bleeding heart liberal. Yes, Uncle, I care about others.)

I read Pelosi's daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, said: "My Mom will cut your head off and you won't even know you're bleeding."  !! Quite the comment for a daughter to make.

I only hope they're not so eager to get rid of Trump they allow Pence to rise to the presidency. I am so hoping that he goes down with the rest of these criminals or the truly far right could keep power for much longer.

I really think Trump foolishly imagined this wall to be like the Great Wall of China (did President Xi take him there? play it up on their visit last Fall, right after elections?) or Hadrian's Wall (which he's probably never heard of), there for a millennia with his name known 'in glory' forever...

Ann I agree with your statement about Pelosi that same daughter said her own mother was ruthless.
