OK. Let's bet how long The Manchurian President will take to trash Amazon for the disloyal act of putting the two new HQs dead center in the middle of Educated Coast Land. I don't twit, so it may have already happened. Certainly before the sun goes down. Go Blue!

The Liar in Chief will take the Amazon decision as a personal attack, of course, but Bezo – a real billionaire – could care less about gigging the fat man. Bezo has the good sense to know that educated workers make the best workers – unless you're digging ditches or laying sod.For all his bragging about his degree from Wharton (which he doesn't in fact have) tRump is our most ignorant President since Warren G. Harding, who will, thanks to tRump, finally be relieved of the title "Worst President in US History"

Beacause he is ignorant, President Us and Them sees the world in black and white -- well, he sees a lot of it in gold and green, but that's another story. But he is as wrong about The Great Divide in this country as he is about everything else. The Divide is not so much between Liberal and Conservative, as it is between Educated and Ignorant, and trump and his rabid base are exhibit A for Ignorance.

The Educated and Ignorant divide all too obviously manifests itself in the Urban and Rural divide. As I wrote in my book, the best and brightest born in America's backwaters can't wait to get the hell out. That's a generalization, of course, but living as I do in a place that is both rural and ignorant, I assure you that many, if not most, of the well-educated people I've met in East Tennessee lean Left.

By the way, I also don't twit – nor do I do fakebook.

I, for a long time, seen it as a rural/urban divide.  the Mainstream Fake News is finally figuring it out.  Bezos did long ago.

Ironically, Bezos has profited handsomely from the rural rubes. Those of us who live in the boonies have little choice but to use Amazon for many purchases. I don't think Bezos did anything especially brilliant, though. What he did was make an Internet version of the Sears catalog.  His "genius" was doing it first and best.

"What he did was make an Internet version of the Sears catalog."

preachin to the choir.  these missives have been saying that for some years.  which included the assertion that Amazon had to fail just because it costs so much more to move widgets by the each than by the tonne.  OTOH, WalMart proved that a large box store in the boonies could destroy Main St. USA in every city or town smaller than NYC.  as it happens, Amazon doesn't make much net profit, and never has.  and when it has, it's been from other things than shipping widgets to the boonies.  Amazon has just proved that a bigger box store can wipe out a smaller.  if it can continue to suck up ever more capital.
