This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things...

Image result for why we can't have nice things

Ever wonder why we can't have nice things like the "Medicare for All" single-payer healthcare system that almost 60% of all American adults want?  (the number is probably much higher now then reported in the 2016 Gallup poll because of the huge influx of pro-Medicare for All supporting Millennials.)

I'm sure your knee jerk answer is "It's those damn Republican's fault!"

You'd be wrong, however.

When Obama was formulating his healthcare plan MfA wasn't even offered as an option for the Republican's to vote on.

You might wonder why that would be with so many American voters supporting it...

The answer is just the opposite of what you "knee jerked".

The people who killed that option and who CONTINUE to kill that option are Democrats...  most especially the remnants of the Clinton created Democratic Leadership Council and their subsequent "spawn", the New Democrat Coalition.

Most people who are not political wonks are not familiar with these "fine" folks.

The DLC consisted of some of the most notable right of center Democrats (who loved to call themselves "moderates" but were anything but...) like,

  • Rep. Dick Gephardt
  • Gov. Chuck Robb
  • Sen. Sam Nunn
  • Gov. Bill Clinton
  • Sen. John Breaux
  • Rep. Dave McCurdy
  • Sen. Joe Lieberman
  • Sen. Evan Bayh
  • Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz
  • Gov. Tom Vilsack
  • Rep. Harold Ford
  • Sen. Hillary Clinton

BTW, you might note that several of these guys are the same ones who are currently advising the renowned racist and Trump administration insider Frank Gaffney, who is the architect of Trump's Muslim ban that I posted about yesterday.

^^THESE^^ are some of the establishment Democratic elitists who killed the MfA option and who are still busy doing the same thing.

Happily, for many, the DLC closed it's doors back in 2011.  Unhappily, for people who are paying attention, they simply went back under their rocks for a bit and crawled out under the revitalized New Democrat Coalition in 2012.

There also is a LOT of them.  Their rolls include 122 active Representatives and Senators, 46 former Representatives (aka connected lobbyists) and 21 former Senators (aka connected lobbyists, Part II) ~ most of which are DNC Super Delegates.

These stealth Republicans are guilty of blocking any true progressive agenda and most notably are totally responsible for preventing Medicare for All from even being considered.

Remember, these are the EXACT SAME PEOPLE who said, in an interview with the New York Times,

"they were pleased that none of the Democratic candidates supports a single-payer health care system, that they are all taking the environment seriously, and that they’re focusing on national security."

If you are interesting in reading even more about how the real villains we SHOULD be fighting are being two-faced, lying, kabuki Democrats, you should buy the latest issue of Jacobin, titled "JOURNEY TO THE DARK SIDE".

They also have a very informative article about who keeps undermining Medicare for all, found HERE

SOOOOOOO... (you knew this was coming, right?)

Before doing the normal, brainwashed, "lesser evilism" think LOOK deeper into who the Democrats really are and who comprises almost ALL of the DNC leadership.

You'll see that they are the ones who represent the "greatest evil" and who have been screwing you over for decades.

Why can't we have nice things?

The answer is the elitist, corporately owned Democratic establishment!

Though I did vote for Obama for POTUS in 2008, from 1990 until 2016, I voted Green in every election.  In 2016 after Jill Stein unilaterally offered to "step aside" to give Bernie Sanders an unimpeded path to the Green Party nomination for POTUS, I accepted the sage political advice of George Carlin and declined to vote at all.

Never imagined that the loony tunes would elect the Beast "45" but since HRC carried California in a landslide, don't blame me.  I'd complain but no one would listen.

I can't keep up with the details enough to remember who is who and what do they want and who is paying them to say they want it.

It seems from what I read here that this is a passion of yours SBA so I'll check in once in awhile. I though this was a liberal/progressive site so I'm wondering who this is aimed at. There must be some good arguments I've missed in the past.

That video is great JMac. I haven't seen it before. You should post it on other political blogs too.

 I though this was a liberal/progressive site.

LOL.  Nope.

This place is primarily occupied by people who supported Hillary Clinton, gave Debbie Wasserman Schultz & Donna Brazile a total pass and who think fondly of Obama's drone strikes.  In other words, establishment, "lesser evilism" (that's their excuse, anyways) Democrats.

Calling them liberals and/or progressives is an insult to real liberals or progressives.

As for my aim, it is hopefully to sway a few of the "talk the talk"ers into taking the blinders off of their eyes, engaging their minds and actually "walking the walk".

Cant get too detailed. On a phone. youre not wrong. But you're not entirely right either. The nature of politics is fluidity and compromise. It will never be perfect. However we appear to have come to a juncture where decency and doing what is right might be a viable option for both sides.

there isn't a chance anyone will seriously consider single payer unless they repeal. Obama shouldnt have caved.. But hes human and he did what he did.

Presently weve got a for profit system thats serviceable and fixable. and the majority of Americans trust it. My hope is they fix it and gradually improve it by edging into SP. but I don't see Americans or congress or the idiot king embracing it. Right now the focus is on the ACA. I'm with you but ill be relieved if they fix the fucking thing and people can hold onto their health insuranc.

Part of the toxic pill that is "insurance companies" which this society is forced to pay for and swallow is coated with "We (insurance companies) care about Life."  And they do! They take care to make money off of Life.  Everytime I see the Pacific Life commercial with whales breaching the oceans suface in apparent joy of freedom reflecting  the companies' alleged reverance for Life, i am reminded of these very same insurance company dynasties whose great wealth was built on insuring whale and slave ships and their cargoes. Irony it is not, hypocrisy it uncategorically is.

My latest favorite bullshit ad is for some oil conglomerate and it's got that music and it's steeped in children and families and blue skies and happy multicultural faces.  to make it worse, this garbage comes on at 6 in the morning and it's not something to start my day with a smile, I'll tell you.

Comment by Foolish Monkey on March 30, 2017 at 2:01pm

our lives are marked with toxic pills everywhere - all newspeak lies telling us red is green and bad is good.

it's like this trump presidency = do people NOT see the noses on their faces?  I find this so sad and curious and damning, because if we swallow this lunacy now, what will we swallow ten years from now?

If political hypocrisy was illegal, no one over the age of twelve would be able to run for, or hold an office of any consequence here or anywhere else on the planet.

I read recently that this new generation getting ready to vote in 2018 was raised on Teletubbies and Harry Potter, and they are going to be looking for a candidate who reflects those values. There may be hope.
