In 1919 William Butler Yeats published one of the most beautifully disturbing and one of the most anthologized poems in my ken.  The opening lines of “The Second Coming” seem prophetic in their aptness for today.:

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.”

The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

 “Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

    The darkness drops again but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?”

…A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun…

…And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?

The Beast 45 appears to have been imagined a century before it appeared.

Apparently written about WWI, the lines, unfortunately, seem timeless.

To the point of the last comments, this line from the poem Ben Sen recommended resonates:

"

If you don't know the kind of person I am
and I don't know the kind of person you are
a pattern that others made may prevail in the
           world
and following the wrong god home we may miss
           our star.

@Kosh;  "Ron's point I think is that not enough Americans cared about stopping Trump to stop Trump. That was costlier than they expected."

That’s just about it...

So Ron,

Yes you saw how gawdawful trump was! ok!!

so what did YOU do?

Besides gleefully and repeatedly publishing images of white women dressed in stupid offensive to you slutty outfits and yahoo white men missing teeth while you made many many blanket comments about white supporters of trump (conveniently neglecting to note his poc followers) again I'm asking- besides all this vigorous finger wagging and hair on fire observations - perhaps you can detail what exactly you did to get hill elected?

as for my boobage and buttage blog, which was tongue in cheek chick/fashion/body image blogging you keep going back to like the bible - I had a point about Hill and her determined efforts to control everything about herself to the point of being bodyless much of the time.  I stand behind that blog.

this relentless desire of yours to "school" me is tiresome and predictable.

with respect to rodney and this thoughtful blog I'll say no more to you.

Sorry for the repeats Rodney.  I was trying to answer on my phone - ALWAYS  a futile, royal PITA, so I ended up opening the laptop and posting my comment from that

 "Frankly this relentless desire of yours to "school" me is tiresome and predictable. Please stop."

Not a problem. But know this ;

Your tongue in cheek boobage and buttage blog had more merit than any wait and see, benefit if the doubt comment you’ve made here...

I  make no distinction between black and white supporters and followers of Trump.. ..his  base.....

Idiots all....

Dear mr last word, I'm allowed an opinion. I'm even allowed to publish them. I stand by wait and see..

Is there something else, something that wouldnt get one locked away for life in a federal hoosegow that one might have done besides waiting and seeing?..

Tell me your secret strategy because surely you have one.... Uh..   besides this relentless browbeating ..

"I made no distinction between black and white followers of Trump"

i take it when you refer to Trump's Black supporters you mean both of them. Not the most meaningful egalitarian statement I've ever read.

@Kosh;  That was in response to FM :

"...you made many many blanket comments about white supporters of trump (conveniently neglecting to note his poc followers)..."

Missed that. I agree with you on this one. Poc wasn't exactly a key Trump constituency.
