There seems to be a ton of fake news surrounding Charlottesville and the repercussions. For example, that Anonymous hacked The Daily Stormer site after the DS published a post calling Heather Heyer a fat childless slut. You can see that awful post here. GoDaddy, the website's host, gave The Daily Stormer 24 hours notice before they would remove their site for a violation of terms of service. Anonymous denies hacking The Daily Stormer, and hypothesizes that The DStormer ran the Anonymous banner themselves in the remaining 24 hours they had left online, possibly to cast blame on the left.
An interesting site for the black perspective about Charlottesville is The Root, one of the Gawker Media sub-sites. There is some good reportage there about various aspects of the Charlottesville tragedy not covered by the MSM. Deandre Harris, a 20 year old black man was severely beaten by white supremacists in a parking lot adjacent to the police department. Although police did not come to his aid, his friends did. Now the white supremacists who beat him are being doxed.
The Twitter account @YesYoureRacist is similarly outing white supremacists using rally photos. One was fired from his job. There is a Change dot org petition calling for the expulsion of Peter Cvjetanovic, a University of Nevada student doxed by @YesYoureRacist. As of this morning it had over 10K signatures.
On Saturday, the white supremacists are coming to my town. They’ve boasted that Charlottesville was only the beginning and that their rallies will not stop and will in fact, expand. The mayor of Boston and the governor of Massachusetts are saying they should not come. Unlike the Charlottesville police, Boston police are very good at crowd control. Numerous counter protests are being planned. The UU church here is going and I may tag along.
Our local museum has an original Chinese house that was brought here brick by brick and reconstructed on the museum grounds. Every room has a loudspeaker that played propaganda at a high volume. It could not be turned down or off. Every room also features a portrait of Chairman Mao. Life here is beginning to feel like that, that we cannot retreat from Trump’s image or his words. He is always there, larger than life, sucking all the air to be had in the media, in conversations with friends and strangers, at work, at the supermarket, at the bank.
It is a challenge to stay afloat these days. Even while on vacation, our nightmarish president delivers a daily punch in the gut, punches that are getting progressively more horrific and emotionally debilitating. I'm 63 years old and have lived through a lot of bad presidents, but have never seen anything like this.
Turning off Chairman Trump for today, because I still can.
