hi all. it is semifamously said "war is the health of the state". so instead of a State of the Union address to the country, maybe a more candid president might delineate the State of the War(s).

war is hell! did not imagine years ago on entering adulthood that maybe the majority of my middleaged life would involve the US at war.

and it is definitely not Tis the Season to talk about world war. so while others are zigging, here there will be zagging. just chalk it up to that fiery contrarian spirit in me. (and turn of the year is a timely transition. and my links runneth over. & barely had enough letters for all the sections!)

we are very blessed in the US geographically to be surrounded by two generally peaceful neighbors, canada and mexico, and otherwise isolated. oh except for that nasty drug war [w] that most americans are mostly oblivious to, one conspirationally wonders maybe by intentional media conditioning or omission....

(one might say) war has been a constant spike in humanity for millenia. how could our great country be any different? we started out with our own revolution. in fact am thinking more of the US revolution in comparison to those around the world (syria, ISIS, afghanistan, iraq etc). isnt it strange how terminology is so slippery in war? there are freedom fighters, "moderate" rebels, terrorists, insurgents, revolutionaries, etcetera, and in some ways there is no distinction or discernable difference in reality, but in the media, the labelling makes all the difference.

the 1st casualty of war is the truth.

a small )( perhaps zenlike question of our time to ponder: was George Washington somehow fundamentally different than Osama Bin Laden? ok, its unpatriotic at least, or un- or anti- american for me to question stuff like that right?

yes, we are inundated in war propaganda daily as americans, so much so that we react to it with disinterest. its merely "the daily news".

some big/ striking news is that ISIS seems to be on the retreat and has lost ~25% territory in the last year or so. these are shocking words to write given the blitzkrieg developments of the last few years. they are being attacked in their last large city holdout Mosul [b] and the forecast is for them to be pushed out in the next few months or so. the other major city Raqqa in syria is also under siege by the syrian military and under major pressure. it looks like the war could shift dramatically in the next few months.

collecting links on all this stuff & writing it up is my personal way of both facing and evading reality. and posting them might be like blowing the seeds off a dandelion into the wind.

the other big news wrt all this is the election of Trump.[p] its hard to figure out what will happen because he was so anti-Iraq war. but so far hes nominated a lot of generals to cabinet positions, which would tend to indicate a "hawkish" aka uninterrupted WARMONGER/WARMACHINE approach.

however one latebreaking surprising wildcard.[f27] trump criticized the $4B cost of air force 1 "II" in a tweet a few days ago and just read another article in dailymail seconds ago which confirmed this cost based on leaked documents and also some "defense" on that by current admin/ "whitehouse"! this is a bit startling!

the mere cost/ breakdown of the plane is/ WAS probably regarded as a state secret/ national security issue. even to draw any media attn to the issue at all seems like a rash direction for trump (already playing out with leaked documents to media). also the talking heads are already loudly complaining on tv about trump not listening to natl security briefings.

might trump be a serious challenger to the trillions $$$ War/Police state? however my current guess is that this kind of kneejerk/ impulsive/ maverick/ juvenile stunt/ attitude/ flippancy is going to melt away very quickly ("like a snowball in hell"?) just like it did with obama. maybe the generals will give him a powerpoint presentation tailored to his own personality that will scare the @#$% out of him, at least thats the rumor of what happened to obama and they "show him whos boss" so to speak.

$4B on air force 1 eh? boeing is defn one of those major defense contractors (probably billions per year) although the public maybe is more aware of their commercial image/ reputation, something that trump is already screwing up in a major way with a single tweet. maybe trump might like to take a little )( look at the $100S BILLIONS of dollars spent on the f35 which is making a few headlines lately on its "release".[g] built by the defense contractors that prefer to stay out of the limelight.

oh and trump may end up running into a bit of difficulty making any paper-cut at all, whatsoever which will destroy those precious JOBS. at least that is the "BLOODY MURDER" that will be quickly screamed by the mainstream media at the top of its lungs at any hint of that... (REAL-BLOOD-SOAKED IRONY ALERT!)

which reminds me, in the early 1990s there were substantial/ major defense cuts by clinton, and dimly remember that era and the news of that time. could feel the effects locally as our local IT firm was inundated with resumes filled up with weird acronyms from people losing their jobs.

worked alongside an NSA analyst (was shocked to find out months after sitting elbow-to-elbow with him.) am seriously wondering if that may be the only time in my life that events/ news goes in that direction, its definitely been the opposite for over ~1½ decade so far.

in life only death and taxes are certain, and ofc most of the latter pays for lots of the former with weaponry/WAR as the intermediary. in our day and age the Grim Reaper instead of a scythe carries an ak47... and drives a tank... flies warplanes... and launches missiles... and has TRILLIONS at his disposal courtesy of... Beleaguered/ Impoverished Taxpayer... aka YOU AND ME.

"oh hell," there are a few glimmers of good news in the following litany of darkness and horrors/ "hell on earth".

to me acknowledgements that maybe saudi arabia is helping fund ISIS, while around a long time, are finally getting some circulation, incl mention by 3rd party candidate Stein is "encouraging".[k][k1] the US position wrt saudi arabia has been shifting significantly in the last few years. of course such things will almost never be stated in the mainstream media.

more light in the darkness, [l6][l7] are on "shadow world" a revealing new documentary. how many americans are gonna watch that? (kind of a rhetorical question, surely far less than 1%...)

[m] is nearly-astonishing academic study that suggests a decline in world war wrt per capita. maybe war is going out with a bang instead of a whimper.

the near-coup in turkey [v] is also a massive development over the last year. turkey is a very questionable NATO ally these days. as it is said "with friends like these who needs enemies?"

could there be a bit more domestic skepticism growing among the public about the dainty so-called foreign "entanglements" aka US-sponsored worldwide terrorism? and maybe social media is fueling some populist sentiments along those lines?

actually this is all just an excuse to maybe trade a few comments with anyone who cares about the same stuff. hope to hear from those who do.

consider this maybe my belated Veterans day contribution/ tribute. my dad paid for college with the GI bill. my grandfather and his brother served in WWII. howard helped clean up japan postwar and stan was on omaha beach. neither ever told me anything about their war years/ service at all, and think it was incredible luck/ small miracle my dad never had to leave a US army base (esp by todays standards). my grateful thx for all your sacrifices. RIP

We still haven't learned the lessons of Vietnam... those with little or nothing to lose will resist to the end while we have no taste for body bags and maimed veterans.   al Qaeda and ISIS will lose in the end but not because of American or Russian military intervention.
