Rigging up for battle.

The sky is clear and the wind is light.

It’s the last day of winter.

Gel insoles. Steel toed boots.

Neoprene knee sleeves. Hard plastic knee pads.

Carhartt vest and coat. 501’s.

600mg Ibuprofen.

Grain toast, 2 eggs, 2 large cups of black coffee. Glass of orange juice.

Installing 2 x 12 plank style Red Cedar stairs to beach house entry. State park style carpentry.

Everything is heavier than it used to be.

Rather alters mine dim eyes, you know about the watch fires, aka, and focus (nowadays scant Baltimore Oriole Roosevelt-Rustbelt sightings), kaleidoscopic diaphragm breathing, your moments' reprieve, estops my study of Stephen Gaghan's Syriana, wondering why and this: how eagles fly.

And you've cheered the minute, mine eyes have blinked at that sleeping Syrian boy, asleep in fodder's suitcase . . .

Poet AKA!

And you know what they say about trigonometry!  Easter + seven weeks!

Everything IS heavier, and my knee pads seem to have fallen through a crack.  There is no sub.

Cheers to you for going ahead with this project! You do sound prepped.
So what if it takes longer than it would have 20 years ago?
I'm sure it will be just as beautiful, and probably far more satisfying, when it's done.

You have depths of wisdom and patience, that you didn't have before, to add to these steps. Make them a work of art.

Thank you all for coming by and leaving me a note.

I'm tired but the stairs and handrails are in. I'll wait for a nice summer day for a little finish sanding, but for now they're sturdy and functional. I watched the sky light up in a palette of oranges, blues, pinks and shimmering yellow, giving them their first sitting as the sun set.

The weather is just right for the first day of spring, so I'll stay on and head back to the city house tomorrow.

This takes some getting used to at first. I'm not very good at sitting around.

Don't get used to it.  Sitting around will kill you.

Correct Rodney.

I limited work to 3 hours yesterday then went sight seeing. I saw nearly 50 Roosevelt Elk in a herd that sometimes wanders into town, 5 Bald Eagles, 2 Great Blue Herons, countless Ravens, gulls, sandpipers etc.

It was a beautiful day. I'm thankful not to be near the east coast snow. It sounds awful to work around.
