As of this writing, innocent people are still being detained at airports across the United States under President Trump's now-illegal executive order targeting Muslims for deportation. Surrealistically, the detainees are being asked for three things - their green cards, their cell phones, and their views on Donald Trump.

I am not making that up.

To me, this seems sort of like asking people waiting to board a train for Dachau to fill out a questionnaire about the SS.

"Guten tag, mein frau. We were wondering if you could spare a little time to let us know how well you think the SS is doing its job. Ja? Danke schoen! This will only take a few minutes, I promise, then we'll let you board that cattle car and get on with the rest of your day. Now, Question Eins - would you rate the Schutzstaffel's performance in utterly smashing Communism and decadent Western democracy, cleansing the Fatherland of pernicious subhuman elements, and sowing terror among the Reich's enemies as, A. Excellent, B. Good, C. Fair, or D. Poor? Pardon me, was that B? Ja, danke, mein frau. Hauptsturmführer Müller, that was 'B' for Question Eins. On to Question Zwei - would you characterize our Great Leader's eyes as, A. Magnetic, B. Mesmerizing, or C. Smoldering? Vas ist los? Ja, hahaha, that's what the ladies usually say, mein frau. Müller, that's another 'C' for Zwei... "

It would be funny if it weren't so very, very sad.

I still am here wondering why there are so many protests, demonstrations and political grand standing over Trump banning refugees (which I certainly do not agree with) and hardly a one over Obama's bombings of self-same refugees and our government's military support of the people who drove them from their countries.

Everyone of the 9/11 terrorists could come into this country tomorrow.  Why are Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Israel not on that same list?  (Hint:  Follow the money!)

You forgot that they want to review your social media accounts. Reason Number 136 not to have social media accounts.

Our classes are cancelled on Weds for an all college discussion about actions and support for students/faculty from the seven countries and those (mostly grad students) presently studying abroad. Shit got real.

Amy, no one here ( I certainly don't) thinks bombing children and civilians is a good idea. I don't know why Obama doing it did not get more attention and protest. Maybe more people hate Trump. But it's getting attention now. For so many reasons, people are responding en masse to resist Trump. You've probably been out in the streets as many of us have. I'm an old hippie, protested the Vietnam war when I was a young hippie. I haven't felt a popular resistance like that since these past two weekends. If you want to make your voice heard and your support dollars make a difference, it's now.

Agreed, JMac. And Amy - last night I watched a bad '90s movie in which Tea Leoni played a reporter for MSNBC who somehow discovered that our government had been hiding from the general public their knowledge that a giant comet was gonna smash into Earth and mess up everyone's real estate investments.  At the start of the film Tea's grooming was impeccable, make-up perfectly applied, not a hair out of place, her clothes and composure completely unruffled, just as you'd expect from an ambitious, up-and-coming journalist angling to replace Ashleigh Banfield as chief female correspondent in charge of intragalactic catastrophes, but as the story line progressed (and I use that term loosely) and things kinda fell apart, she gradually became more and more disheveled, eventually winding up with her hair all tousled up and a smudge on her cheek and the top button of her blouse carelessly left undone. And yet, somehow, the more disheveled her character became, the hotter she was, til eventually she was all, like...

What was I talking about again? Money? Yeah, that was it.

At some point early on in the movie, Tea's character, Jenny, said "Follow the money," then she did that thing she does with her eyes, 'cause her boss was pissing her off, and not too long after that the FBI caught her on the New Jersey Turnpike, or would that be Toinpike?

This is a really good post. I couldn't write it that well but I wish I had anyway.

Only Russians, Syrians and Palestinians are allowed to bomb children, schools and hospitals. And it's still Obama's fault when they do. Or the Jews'.

Comment by nanatehay on January 31, 2017 at 12:17pm

Isn't pretty much any government allowed to bomb children?  Or rather, not necessarily allowed as such, but at least given a free pass to do so by its citizens and allies  provided the children-bombing in question isn't demonstrably intentional. I think there's even  a quick reference guide in the UN charter that shows an illustration of an exploding perambulator followed by "Baby-blowing-up on purpose = UN sanctions. Baby-blowing-up collaterally during the accomplishment of clearly stated national aims = meh."

Can't we just scrape ourselves bloody with 80 grit sandpaper then jump in a vat of salt and lemon juice instead?

Yes, monkey, suicide by clown, that is a good fucking way to put it.

Thanks, greenheron, for sharing that. I'm gonna get something like that going at my place of employ. I like your new avatar, it's cool as a cat can get, say I ~

Saludos there, nana ~ I saw that movie too. I got distracted 'cause Tea Leoni's eyes and her shirt are the same color.

nanatehay - I should have been more specific - I was referring to SBA's frame of reference. And included the word "intentional."
