Sometimes you just know... (prose-poetry)

Sometimes you just know that someone's lying...

something in their voice, their stance, their eyes. You just know, you just know. you have a strong feeling in your gut. You try confronting, but get nowhere. There is danger in their presence. You could hang around and try to dig out the truth, but you realize it is imperative to listen, to listen to your own voice: "It is sometimes wise to flee in the face of evil."

So you walk away, walk away fast. Your car is filled with valuable possessions. But most important, your spirit is intact. You hate to abandoe a fight, but it is crucial to pick one's battles, in this age of deceit, for the sake of your friends and loved ones.
