So how many here were on Open Salon?

I used to write on Open Salon, but I have been away for a while because teaching and other things made my life too busy to contribute. I was surprised to find out it had disappeared and read somewhere that people may have migrated to Our Salon. I am glad there is still a place to go for the expression of free thought no matter what side of the fence you hail from. It is awesome to be able to learn from others.

I am looking forward to writing this summer.

I went by Sage (Ruth)

Hi, Ruth!

Some do miss OPEN and I think we're all glad there was an OPEN; it became terribly neglected by Salon and for quite a while, technologically and as to the editor's role, long before it shut. Many here met at OPEN, and there are many, now here, who were never there. This site's owner, Lorianne, is an excellent manager. I hope you'll write and check our OUR's radio podcast and music components (yellow banners, upper-right).

Hi Ruth - I was on OPEN SALON from 2010-2015 & posted 500 articles.  Welcome back. R&L

Glad to meet some more refuge's maybe I can find some old friends. I can't remember all of their handles, but if I see them I will recognize them if they are using the same one. People knew me as Sage on Open Salon.

Well, I'm another refugee, and I do believe you were on my faves list there.

There are times I miss what Open was meant to be -- and was for some time -- but in the end, it devolved, as Jon intimated, into a royal mess. Reminds me somewhat of what happened to Guardian Universal Talk in the UK, where I had been hanging out until a) it shut down and b) I discovered Open. This site, while it doesn't have the numbers that Open did, is several notches above in the way it's administered. I should note that it also doesn't have the nastiness.

Anyway, glad to see you here, Sage.

I remember some from that site, others not so much.

There have been some good writers, people with interesting backgrounds, deciding to land here.

I was there. Hi, Sage!

I was there.
There are some here who were there under different names, like Just Phyllis (now just Phyllis) and Just Thinking (Anna Herrington). And others. So if you see a name you don't recognize, they may still be OS refugees. I think the vast majority of us are, though not all.

If you were on Open Salon, you should also be made aware that there are a number of bloggers from there who have passed away in the last couple of years, since we've been here. The ones I can think of off the top of my head:

James Emmerling
Another Steve
Dorien Grey
Kim Gamble
