LeBron James, the preeminent star player of the NBA, apologized Sunday for sharing lyrics on his Instagram account over the weekend that included the line, "getting that Jewish money."

James was told to "shut up and dribble" by Laura Ingram of the Fox News Network because of the manner in which he expressed his political views...

Perhaps, someone should sit him in a corner somewhere and give him a lecture on political correctness, stereotypes, the responsibilities of a role model, and Abe Saperstein...

"Abraham Michael Saperstein (July 4, 1902 – March 15, 1966) was the founder, owner and earliest coach of the Harlem Globetrotters. Saperstein was a leading figure in black basketball and baseball in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, primarily before those sports were racially integrated."

If I were chosen for the task , I'd conclude the talk by telling him that he is living proof that money isn't a substitute for a brain and that he should seek to complete his education as quickly and as soon as possible, in light of the fact that he went into pro ball directly from high school....

As it stands, my bet is that he hasn't a clue as to who Saperstein is and the impact this Jewish man's money had on bringing black players into professional sports, especially and particularly basketball...

Just finished WILT, IKE, & ME, by David Richman, son of the 76rs owner, Ike Richman, who brought Chamberlain to Philly. As a 16 yr old, David was Wilt's roommate, as Ike not only was Wilt's boss and business manager, but invited Wilt to live in his home for two years. Wilt and the 16 yr old developed a relationship lasting til Wilt's death.   All this took place in my hometown, Elkins Park, PA, when I, too, was a teenager.

It’s not funny watching that wedge getting hammered deeper and deeper. Anybody falling for those tricks...needs some schooling. Nobody works harder at dividing than Murdoch’s fucking minions.

Having Blacks and Jews at each other’s throats serves whom? It’s all just so damn juvenile. Pure bullshit.

Thank you Fox News,  for all you do to ramp up the pulse of ignorant haters everywhere.

Why anyone expects to find wisdom from adults who get paid to play a game, act on TV or be in politics is something that is baffling.

This just goes to show how complex life is for the uninitiated, regardless of talent or exposure or travel ... in the end one must educated oneself ... and despite being a die hard Warrior fan since Chamberlain played for them, way before the present super-squad, though we certainly had our championships in Philly and SF with Rick Barry too, I still absolutely respect and adore Lebron for what he is and will be. Lots of young pro athletes balk at what we old timers see as basic questions, Lebron finishing only high school had to contribute to that, but it sure didn't hold him back from standing tall for Civil Rights or being a leader in altruism. The man is- A MAN among boys, just like Wilt was.

Out of context and laden with anachronistic elements one can easily make the case Saperstein was a Jewish man who profiteered off blacks. Except, they had nowhere else to play! So, who exactly was the bad guy, and is Lebron supposed to review and edit everything he posts?

Thanks to KD and Boogie, not to mention Steph and Klay, he may never win another ring, but James has proven he has more guts in his little finger than our Confederate Yankee election stolen by Russia collusion prez ever could fit in his whole McDonald's ridden body.

For someone with a high school education, James is as articulate, well spoken and generally respectful while standing up to power as anyone I've ever seen.

@MS; Despite your glowing assessment, he still needs my lecture and post script re giving efficacy to Laura Ingram's remark...

"...is Lebron supposed to review and edit everything he posts?"

@JW; Chamberlain did a turn with Saperstein's Harlem Globtrotters before entering the NBA...

@AKA; Agreed! However, there are some unexpected exceptions....

I'd say a little perspective is in order. LeBron screwed up, but his screw-up isn't in the same league with Ingram's vile attacks on the poor brown souls risking everything trying to find refuge in this country. So if LeBron is supposed to shut up and dribble, maybe Ingram oughta "shut up and drool?.

And while we're at it, LeBron's screw-up isn't even in the same universe as tRump's foul-mouthed race-baiting, misogyny and myriad other screw-ups. In his case, the advice oughta be"shut up and die".

@TC; The James gaffe and the Ingram remark are definitely not in the same league. To suggest that they are would be a stark example of false equivalency.

That being said, my observation and assertion is predicated on the notion that LeBron James and others must adhere to a higher standard of awareness and diligence precisely because of people like Ingram who would take the Instagram incident out of context and to another level as evidence or 'proof'  of the validity or legitimacy of a racist remark like "shut up and dribble".
