I have been putzing around with a picture in my head for a few months now, it's reminiscent of a scene from the Lassie movie where Lassie is kidnapped and turned into a war dog. After Lassie escapes and is terrorizing the countryside on his way home, there's a road and a fence that look like this. Sort of. I keep seeing the trees in shades of red and white.

After I roughed it out, I was taking a picture and my lampshade cast some really interesting shadows on it.

So I held it up and colored in the shadows with my pencil.

The second one was photographed in the kitchen under halogen lights to avoid the lampshade shadows, hence the different color. I'll be keeping that first photo handy, though, and touching up the shadows to look more like them. Having those shadows thrown in really made the drawing pop.

So, step one has commenced.

I can sense the vicious collie just to the side of the picture.

I still love the shadows. And I prefer to think "lost collie." That poor dog had his safety stripped away and was abused to keep stupid humans alive. Then he was almost murdered for it.

I like the curve of the earth look you've given to the fence. Also the idea of red and white trees. Those sound spectacular.

Want me to put on the art prof hat? Close in on the scene. Sketch shows the standard postcard perspective. 30% of your foreground could be ditched unless you want to put lassie there :) Curved fence and trees, those are your designated subjects. Go for it!

I want to see where you take this.   good start.  no advice...looks like you know what you want to say.

that's one of my favorite movies.  REPORT!! DUKE REPORT!!  fucking GREAT!  heroic lassie dog and a very young elizabeth taylor who it so happened I was named after.  (but it turns out not really)
