Research & Development: Question for a Monday

Big pharmaceuticals and big oil spend big money on R & D.

It has been surmised, and the subject of a good deal of speculation, that when discoveires that can alter economies globally and lives individually, the respective formulas are shelved and kept from the public in order to maintain profits on current products and maximize profits on products to be, made available to the public in the future....

What do you think big oil and big pharma would do with discoveries that led to the knowledge that the cure for the common cold is oxygen and that sea water can be cheaply converted into a clean energy combustible fuel?

There’s a 1980 movie called The Formula that’s about that. Marlon Brando is in it. It stars George C. Scott.
