Over the years here on Our Salon and back on Open Salon, I have been accused of being an anti-Semitic, pro-Israeli, unconscious racist, ignorant sexist, privileged old white dude by a variety of people. On occasion I've taken the time to try to set those folks straight on where I'm coming from which is pretty much: Life is too short to get wrapped up around the axle about what folks say or the agenda that goes with it. When in doubt about what to do, remember the words of Hillel the Elder when challenged by the Gentile who asked that the Torah be explained to him while standing on one foot. Hillel raised his left foot from the ground and said: "What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow: this is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn."
