Did White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, deserve this?:

No

Insults aren’t funny just because they’re insults

I’d imagine whatever association manages this event is embarrassed. That is not the purpose of this event. I hope they issue a public apology. If they’re going to maintain any reputation of impartiality, they have to.

This was over the top rude. We can’t complain about how uncivil the other side is if we do this.

We also can’t complain about how uncivil the other side is if we tolerate this. You know conservative pundits are going to go apeshit over this. If I were a conservative, I would. From a tactical standpoint, I would stand with them on this one because if we don’t they’re going to use it against us forever. This is a typical Left tactical mistake: tolerating the excesses of our fringes results in all of us being painted as supporting those excesses. Think flag burning. Think about the life of that issue.

No.

You can guess what my take on diss'ing someone by implying that they are a butch lesbian (which is what the "divided into softball teams" stereotyping BS was) or slamming someone for their appearance (which was what that "Aunt Lydia" crap was about) vs. their actions right?

Its not like there aren't thousands of other reasons for slamming the woman, but Wolf had to attack her with two things that Huckabee has no control over/are homophobic as hell and by doing so she stepped WAAAAY over the line.

Lenny Bruce shocked. He wasn't always trying to be funny. It fell flat at times and yet he is remembered for forcing people to cringe and think.

Maybe it's that time again.

I don't see why, and I have not understood, why the event's center is a comedian (of any stripe).

That decision, along w the coverage of it, has always diminished the original purpose, the raising up of good journalism and the efforts to protect journalists and the scholarships granted to journalism students.

So on days after seven journalists were slaughtered in Kabul, we're debating edgy comic shtick.

Idiotic debate, nearly lost purpose.

This is what happens when reading the news is conflated and confused with reporting the news.

This is what happens when those who are supposed to report the news become the news.

This is what happens when 'journalists' see themselves as 'celebrities'.

This speech, or excerpts from it, should be read annually as the highlight of the affair :

Huckabee Sanders is one of the rudest, most unqualified examples of anyone ever to work in the White House. She is a plain as day liar, a hater, and the last person in the world I will feel sorry for. As to jokes that cross the line, that's what jesters are there for.

Amy, this is a prime example of why I believe that trading slurs, epithets, and insults is noncommunicative and unproductive.

Doing so has no place in civil discourse or the marketplace of ideas.

Who was it who chose Michelle Wolf?  That's the question.

There are so many more willing & talented comics in the U.S. to chose from.

First, she IS NOT a seasoned Comic or Performer who is needed in that setting.  She doesn't have the cred yet & most people don't know of her.  That is - the one chosen should be well-liked or known by a large percentage of the viewers/attendees of the event.

As a former Stand-Up Comic I'm ashamed.  But, there are a lot of 'bad' comics the public does not see.

I saw Michelle Wolf's HBO Special & previously, I saw her doing short commentary on Trevor Noah's show on Comedy Central.  She never appealed to me: loud, brash, purposefully shocking.

I've seen this Correspondent's Dinner many, many times.  The President is always there to poke fun at himself, as well as a comedian in attendance.  In this case, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was his replacement & unfortunately got the stinging hits.

Marilyn, Margaret Talev, the current president of the White House Correspondents' Association, is the person who is reportedly responsible for the selection of Michelle Wolf.

I believe she acknowledged and admitted having done so in an interview that aired on MSNBC's  'Morning Joe ' today.....

I have as much respect for Sanders as I do for the WH press corpse. Which is none. Fuck her feelings. And theirs.
