I see this picture and it makes me all sentimental. Sentimental for myself, which is kinda dorky and totally self-absorbed, but, well, it is what it is.

How old was I? Nine? 11? It was a school picture. I’ve got school pictures and a random smattering of photos from when my older half sisters were visiting. My parents weren’t the camera-owning picture-taking types.

Do I look far away in the photo? A little sad, maybe? Or is that just my memory of how I was back then?

Far away.. a little sad maybe. A lot dorky but who wasn't.

Oh, totally dorky. I still am, though that bothers me less, now.

G-kitty, you crack me up- I've never thought of you as dorky. Quirky, unusual, unique, but never dorky. But then, I think a lot of us (yep, I was a Master Dork back then) who were deemed dorky ended up being quirky, unusual and unique because our then-dorkiness allowed us to be that way.

Bees Tone - really, not dorky? a dweeb, perhaps? I was never smart enough to be a nerd. I think you had to be smart to be a nerd, right? I just had embarrassing habits, bad acne and no friends. I'll definitely take the "quirky, unusual and unique." Thank you, my former fellow dork!

Jan Sand - I've hereby chosen to believe that you are 100% correct!

What you look is familiar....although I'm sure we have never met. Like a snashot of time from the 1970's

Yes indeed, it would have been the 70's!

You a dork?

Or Jan?

No,just accepting life as it is/was.

When a child looks into a camera, the expression tells us a lot about the person in charge.(of the camera etc.)

Heidi. Me a dork. Yes. Don't remember who the took the picture, only that it was the rep from whatever company took "school pictures" back then. My parents didn't own a camera, so I have school pictures and a few photos from visiting, much older, half-sisters from my childhood.

Children's faces tell a lot about the circumstances. The dorks might be the ones who find themselves later on in one of the most sophisticated forums.
