OS is particularly flaky lately. I've seen a number of people complaining their comments get lost. I'm guessing if they go back to the post they'll find their comment appears.

Here's my pretty consistent workaround.

  • Type your comment.
  • Copy the whole comment.
Please don't include your name and picture and all that. It's annoying.)
  • Click on the COMMENT box.
    Your comment should disappear now.
  • Refresh the page.
Firefox has a circle arrow just left of the address bar.
         Other browsers may be different.
Or close the tab/window, go to the front page and open it again.
  • Your comment should appear where it belongs - in the thread.
  • If it doesn't, well, you copied it and it's all safe on your clipboard. Paste and try again.

This doesn't affect the 500 failure screen. I just keep opening from the start and it usually only takes one re-try.

And this is to counter the ugliness of the above problem:

could you just die

I wish I had a quick fix or easy answer...  but I dont. The issue is on the server side & Ning support & I are still fighting over it. They want to dismiss me by saying its the user's browser issue, but the are wrong & I wont be dismissed.

I think they have (finally) decided I am right & it is their issue, not a browser issue. Hopefully that means we are on the way to a fix...soon...i hope.

As to losing posts? If Open Salon didnt teach people to formulate their blogs in a word or other document program and then to cut & paste it here, then the will never learn. It is the smartest way to do any large text posting anywhere on the internet.

The internet is an imperfect place, screws fall out all the time.

Lorianne, sometimes I just work around things. It's happening enough that I didn't think it was me and there's also that 500 page popping up now and then. I am learning to wait for Ning and I thought you must know about it because it's been mentioned so much.

I get doing a post in Word (who me? Not usually.) Comments are harder and most hard for the long-winded among us. (who me? Almost always.) Comments I more often do in Word than posts, at least the most long-winded ones. It's comments people are losing.

I think my solution is pretty quick especially if you refresh the page and find out your comment did actually post, Maybe Ning just wants them to themselves for a little while. Maybe there's a hidden censor at work reading them all. Maybe there's a glitch at NSA.

Maybe we all should just focus on my beautiful grandbaby and not worry about it. 8-)

I've found posts and comments getting stuck, the "post" click apparently not working - but when I go on a new tab, there they are.

Meantime, we have that ugly heading ... plus seem to be missing the "front page" button.  Sigh.  (CURSE YOU NIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG)

With long comments, and posts , I use the memo app on my android phone. Then paste to the comment box & copy before publishing.

I have been using my phone exclusively for quite some time. It functions as well as the laptop I had and is much more convenient. Lighter, easier to carry, etc....

I've noticed several duplicate  posts and comments which may be the result of someone's efforts to fix that which didn't need fixing.

The format box might be useful to some,  but it can get in the way and cause problems of its own accord.

It should have been made to be optional.

at least we have an admin, THE admin, on the job. Maybe we open call letters to NING and forward them

Myriad - I had gotten used to the ugly heading and forgot all about it.

Ron - I hate typing anything of any length on the phone. And formatting is indispensable. Maybe you're getting the one I get when it's flaky - before I refresh and reopen until I get the right one? The wrong one has no option for links, photos, embeds.

The duplicates come, I think, when you click to post and nothing happens so you click again and so on and so on. Then you refresh the page or go off and back again and ta daa - there it is.

tr ig - hooray for lorianne!

The internet never messes w me: it is afraid.

I always type in word then copy and paste, for everything, not just posting here, so nothings been lost. I have noticed though that sometimes the comment box doesn't have the icon bar above it. When that happens I backspace/forward space and it usually appears.

you can always click the name 'our salon' at the top of any page to return to the main page. Sadly, Ning support doesnt seem to work on week-ends *sigh*  I think the tech guys are great, but since Ning just changed hands (again) nothing seems o be working smoothly...thats kind of typical and will hopefully smooth out in a shot time.
