I began double posting to Our Salon during the great SPAM Wars on Open Salon.  Tink and I did our best to provoke Open Salon to do something to block to SPAMBOTS, but nobody was paying any attention.  So I began double posting in September of 2012:  What to do? “You gonna pull that pistol or just whistle Dixie?”

Heh.  This will be a quiet post.  I only know of a couple who post/comment that didn't come from OS.

THAT said, I found Koshersalaami's post to just be more of the normal, paternalistic, "I'LL tell you what you REALLY think!" Big Brother-ish Newspeak that is routinely dictated around here (beside being wrong about what many people actually DO think).

God help you if you dare deviate from what has been designated as the "norm" because the "animals who are more equal than others" will most certainly will NOT tolerate it.

I didn't tell anyone "You're wrong, this is not what you think, this is." I just looked around at what I observed people saying and said "This is what looks common." Amy, you're trying to tell me I'm full of shit and yet you told me I was wrong about three out of twenty-five. Given that I'm pretty sure the Trump administration disagrees with all twenty-five, I'd say I did pretty well. And there is no "God (or, in your case, Great Celestial Empty Space) help you if you dare deviate." I'm not suggesting a penalty for deviation. I'm observing that a great deal more agreement appears to exist than most people realize.

I agree with Amy that this site mostly consists of Open Salon refugees. In terms of what brought the refugees here, it was a combination of Open Salon technically falling apart, people who already knew Lorianne, and a flat-out campaign to bring people here. "Keep the community, ditch the site." The post and thread where most of that organization took place is still up. I am interested in what brought non-refugees here. There are a couple of those I really wish were still active.

@Kosh; "I am interested in what brought non-refugees here."

That's the reason for the question.

In fact if everyone here is an OS refugee, there's nothing going on here that we haven't said or read before.

Some who I don't think were OSers were here but aren't active now. I particularly miss Jerry DeNuccio and Phibby Venable. I liked their writing.

I started with Open in 2009, mainly because of the presence of Dennis Woo, and his willingness to take ideas out for a walk without aving to fight over them. The particular discussion that led me here (from American Thinker) concerned the Obama Birth Certificate, which, as someone who installed the software that keeps track of such tings at a county level, I absolutely knew to be at best a computer generated fraud, at worst an outright fake ( Not that it's worth arguing about, but he STILL hasn't provided a contemporaneaous birth document)

What was great about Dennis wa that we didn't need to get into the back and forth of denial/affirmation, he simple accepted my expertise and we proceded to speculate on the much more interesting topic of, ok, it's not authentic, what does that mean?

For a while I just visited to be the resident conservative troll, but after the discovery of some other thoughtful people and other writers capable and willing to give critique, I settled in and made the transition to "OUR" mostly to keep up with the gossip. I don't know whether you can still get a thoughtful critique around here, haven't looked for one in a while.

MAYBE, if we can take a deep breath and look to the recent postson "Free Speech" we can quit calling each other names and start saying "interesting, why do you say that?" or some such

OR, an even greater maybe, we can acknowlege, as Kosher's post hints, that we all pretty much WANT the same things for ourselves and our community and Nation, we just disagree on how those (mutual)  goals are best obtained
