One Sentence on the Matter of Indifference to Racism

Indifference to racism is an exercise of 'white privilege' which is both an insidious and an invidious manifestation of racism.

True, and racial bigotry is more common in part because it takes advantage of visible differences. Bigotry and white privilege also rear their ugly heads with religion and other targets, and there, too, they occur more often when there are visible differences. To illustrate, a Muslim woman who dresses like a typical American is much less likely to be discriminated against than if she wears traditional clothing.

The absurdity of the color line can be easily shown by pointing out that some of the blackest people on Earth are Caucasians from the Indian sub-continent. And that said, experts in the field have pretty much dismissed the concept of race altogether. But terms like Caucasian, Negroid, and Mongoloid remain in common use, just as I have used them here. Absurdity upon absurdity, U.S. Census forms inquire as to race, when what they should inquire about is ethnicity, assuming they should inquire about such things at all.

This misappropriation and misuse of words is itself part of the problem. For example, I have never met a person who is actually black or white. Furthermore, how absurd is it call someone like red-haired, freckle-faced NBA star Blake Griffin black? Indeed, some are quite surprised to learn that he is "black". And if actual color isn't the determining factor in that designation, what is? Is it acculturation? If so, then Barack Obama, who was largely raised by his "white" grandparents, ought to be called white. Alas, I fear people are still stigmatized by the godawful "single-drop" racist views that predominated in the past.

Hopefully, one day we will have progressed beyond all that; but sad to say it's all too obvious we are still a long way from that day. But – we are moving in that direction. Note that not very long ago, Cheerios was skewered for an ad featuring a mixed "race" couple, but such ads are now commonplace. I find it surprising that corporate America is leading the way; on the other hand, maybe it's just an example of greedy crapitalists trying to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

"...maybe it's just an example of greedy crapitalists trying to kill two birds with one stone..."

Quite likely the case...But an incremental movement in the right direction...

This one sentence is what got us our current emergency situation. The White Scum (53% of white AmeriKKKa studies consistently show) voted for a sexist racist who began his pitch by calling Mexicans rapists. What more evidence do you need? Well, there is tons more, but, in the interest of one sentence I have called out dozens of whites, sometimes calling them haoles, which here is what they are, for ignoring this attack on Latinos.

I could go on for paragraphs, but, as we all with any education at all realize, undocumented people commit less crimes by far- even if they were the criminal type they have so much more to lose ...
