One Sentence on a Thursday: Why liberals hate Trump to an extent conservatives don’t get

Liberals are first and foremost about protecting the vulnerable and we have never seen a President who so universally despises the vulnerable, which for us is a cardinal sin, perhaps The cardinal sin.

Thank you Ron for pointing out in PM that today is Thursday. Title changed.

Protecting the vulnerable and acting fairly are a liberals main moral foundations. Protecting the in-group is the principle moral foundation of conservatives. You are right; they don't get it. (and we don't get them).

The answer to AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER? is supposed to be YES.

It makes hash out of any Rightist pretense to morality.

Jonathan, the problem is with the word "keeper".  Of course, Cain was trying to distract from the fact that he had killed Abel. (Preposterous though it was to lie to an omniscient being) Not killing someone goes way past being their keeper.  On the other hand, where does the responsibility of looking out for others end?

The answers liberals and conservatives would give to that question would likely be quite different.

There seem to be the influences of conservatives and liberals running through out the bible.  Even kosher laws are conservative (all of those rules about ritual bathing) and liberal (rules about what you eat).  Even today conservatives are obsessed with keeping their body "pure" and liberals are worried about whether their quinoa is organically grown.

Indubitably!

Re: Trump and disregard for the vulnerable, he has classic Narcisstic Personality Disorder. Narcissists only have regard for themselves. It isn’t personal, his disregard. They just are not seen to be of any use to him, personally.

How can I hate someone I've never met? tRump makes it easy. As I've said many times, he is one of the few people I can name who is utterly without a single redeeming quality.

Rodney,
Most of us don’t get them. I don’t like the way they think but I understand it. The extent to which various populations are treated unequally is colossal, and in the sixties in particular resistance to this became prominent. As this accelerated through the seventies, encompassing more and more groups, White straight males felt criticized over more and more things, including their very language. They also saw corrective measures which helped these populations and saw that there were instances where White straight males were put at a competitive disadvantage.

The corrections were never enough to actually fix the problems, but that didn’t stop myths that they overcorrected. That engendered self-righteousness about what was called Reverse Discrimnination, which might have had some validity if those claiming it had ever protested about Actual Discrimination.

But the criticisms of the majority population, primarily White straight males, got more strident than sensible and, as often happens, the critics whose language was excessive were not disowned by the majority population of critics, allowing the non-liberal part of the White straight male population to paint the entire critical population with the behaviors and attitudes of the fringes. This worked a lot like flag burning, which most liberals didn’t like but also didn’t disown, and that bounced later because it fed conservative electoral mobilization. So if you didn’t say “mailperson” you were a sexist.

In addition, some of the discriminated populations fell afoul of religious fundamentalism, particulary when it comes to gender identification and sexual preference. So now these angry guys thought they had God on their side.

They’re frustrated. They don’t like all this assistance going to populations that aren’t them. They don’t like populations they consider deviant to be given civil rights. They don’t like tolerance for illegal immigrants, regardless of whether this tolerance makes any sense. They don’t like that extremists from another religion are killing Americans in America, and they paint the whole religion with that brush. And they don’t like to be made to feel guilty over just being themselves and, as far as they’re concerned, not hurting anyone.

And along comes a guy who says: You’re OK, I think you’re right, and I’m going to back you even once I get into office. No one has ever said that to them before. Not only that, but with the exception of draining the swamp, he does exactly that. He doesn’t reach office and say “I’m backing down about the wall.” He continues to represent the people who elected him, like no one else has, and they love him for it. They love him so much that they will forgive him almost anything because finally, finally, someone has taken the trouble to get them. One of their own is in office and office didn’t change the fact that in most respects (except for the one that’s really important, but that one wasn’t a major promise on his part, just a chant on the part of his followers) he continues to behave as one of their own in the face of overwhelming political pressure at home and abroad. He’s our guy. He keeps the faith.

NO ONE, and I mean no one, gets more assistance than a typical or affluent White American Male. Their whole trip is total bullshit, based on the old adage- don't tell a lie, because if you do you will have to another to cover it up, and another, and another, ad nauseum.

The good news is this applies mainly to conservatives in actual implementation regarding intentional discrimination, voting rights, while traditionally one of their go-tos, are front and center right now but are simply one of hundreds, with redlining just behind lynching in the peckerwood order.

You have to ask yourself, just what is it you want to "conserve" ?  Hatred, superiority by accident of birth, basically authority, control and power, and that takes a lot of money so throw it in.

So, if you are a conservative you want to: stop Civil Rights Acts, Stop Voting Rights Acts, protect and conserve institutions that discriminate ... you mention the sixties, back then we used to just call them what they are- ASSHOLES!

M.S. that is the source of the white straight male anger. Just being treated as an equal felt like discrimination. Straight whiTe women may be discriminated against in the workplace, but socially they enjoyed privilege by association. Which is why they often appear to be acting against their gender interests.
