Odd Signals Detected Coming From Distant Star

Odd Signals Detected Coming From Distant Star:  Astronomers say they've detected "strange signals" coming from the direction of a small red dwarf star, located about 11 light-years from Earth.

Astronomers point out that while the signal could be from aliens, it doesn’t necessarily mean they were trying to contact us.  They may have just butt-dialed wrong number.  Ironically, when scientists tried to respond back, they received a message saying “your call is very important to us, please continue to hold - we will be with you in a moment.”

All kidding aside, how is it they’re able to receive signals from 11 light-years away, yet I always lose my signal every time I drive from Santa Monica back into the west San Fernando Valley?  One thing’s for sure, this alien world has a life form intelligent enough not to find itself stuck in some multi-light-year contract with AT&T.

11 light years.....would that be outward where the older, more advanced races would be found......or inward (to the Big Bang)where the opposite could be found......or in the same sphere of existence as us?

Hey, at least AT&T tries to fix your problems when you call and you can actually reach someone, and in the US. I use them because I've had miserable customer service issues over the years with some of their competitors. Lezlie worked for AT&T and she'll tell you the culture was like that. (L in the Southeast)

There's nothing between that star and us, whereas there can be plenty between you and a cell tower. Also, your car probably isn't listening to the cell tower with a multi million dollar radio telescope array.

And how do you know they're not on an AT&T contract? For all you know, AT&T sold them a bundle with DirecTV.

Kosh - don't take it personally, Im just teasing here.  Besdies, I'm retired AT&T - so I guess that gives me liscence to make jokes about them.  And I would expect to lose a signal in the mountains - I'm only teasing my friend!
