No Racism at Yesterday's Eclipse Viewing.

While racism is debated by various advocates for public policy, the nation goes on with living.  So it was that yesterday, the nation celebrated an eclipse.

In Paterson NJ (a poor town with a majority minority population) folks of all races came out to view the eclipse with guidance (and glasses - as long as they lasted) provided by the Park.

Change comes slowly and rarely at the behest of those who yell and scream.  Here in Paterson we could see folks calmly spending time together.

We have further to go.  But let’s at least recognize that the white thugs who scream and yell are not America.

Here are shots of the sun at various points along the way.

Pictures of visitors:

I don't mean this as an argument that everything is fine.  Nor can we expect a racial epiphany.  But I do mean to remind us the life is complex.  In this moment, folks had not agenda other than to find a place to view the sun.  Maybe on the way home, old hatreds were resumed - but for me, this suggests some progress on the thorny issue.

Clutching at straws for a story.

We know that most of America's population doesn't consist of Nazi sympathizers and KKK supporters.
