Never Meant To Be

You keep putting me down putting me down putting me down!
You can surely bet this clown wears a frown
And all that could be is washed out to the sea
And all that could be is washed out to the sea,

All that was ever meant to be wiped out between you and me
All that was ever meant to be wiped out between you and me
But they'll always say to me it was never meant to be
They will always say to me it was never meant to be,

Just take a look at the clown who wears a frown
He's looking back and he's looking down
Looking for a way to find some other town
Just a place where happiness might abound,

This is my shipwreck in the sea
Where all hopes and dreams can never be
They say it's the cost of being free
Wiping out everything between you and me,

And you wonder why this clown wears a frown
When all you did was put me down put me down
That burden upon the head that wears the crown
Is there no place where happiness might abound?

The question is -- what did you possess, that this person wanted to drink of?  And what did they think they did not have, to drink -- that you did?  Maybe what you missed was something they imbued you with.  But - that is yours now.
