This is my first blog post. In future blogs, I’ll be giving my opinions on things like politics and policy, sports, television, movies, whatever.  My main focus will be on politics, and in that area what I’d like to do is rebut many of the Facebook memes that have become all too influential in how people wind up voting.

To be honest and upfront, I am now, always have been, and always will be a liberal Democrat. If that doesn’t describe you, that’s fine.  Just be civil in your comments and feel free to try to make the case that I’m wrong.  I will try to be as fact based as possible and try not to offend those who may disagree.

As you read my posts, you notice that I do not spell out the name of the current occupant of the White House nor do I refer to his title. He will simply be T***p, hopefully that will not be too confusing for folks.  I still have never referred to Obama’s predecessor as (title plus last name), but I will refer to him either as W or Bush (when I mean the elder and more worthy Bush I will make that clear).  Similarly, I will never refer to Reagan as (title plus last name).  Just a few little quirks but that’s my way of refusing to give respect to those that do not deserve it.

I hope to enlighten a few and change a few minds or if not give you something to think about. With that, I’ll be writing some posts as soon as time permits.

Cheers and Regards,

Welcome. Most of the active membership here is liberal and some of the liberal membership is not Democratic. Most of the active membership is civil most of the time. There will be some virulent arguments, though most of those tend to be within fairly narrow issue confines. The best way I can characterize this place politically is as follows:

That will let you know where you are.

Again, welcome.

Oh, a few technical details about this place:

The comment streams are not continuous but are divided by page. When you comment, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re on the last page of the thread. If not, you may find yourself confused as to where you are when it publishes in addition to having missed some previous comments on the thread when you comment.

You will notice a “Friend” function. The primary function of Friending someone is that function is a prerequisite to allowing the exchange of Private Messages (PM’s). The function can also theoretically be used to limit the ability to comment on your blog to Friends but I know of no one who currently uses the function for that purpose. And there are some other related privacy functions, most of which are not used by most people.

When you get a PM, it will be emailed to you, including its contents. However, you can’t respond to a PM by replying to the e-mail - the fact that its contents are in the email are strictly a courtesy. There is a Reply link in your email you have to use.

You will notice at the bottom of the page, just after the comments, the word Follow or Stop Following. Follow means you get an email any time anyone comments on that thread. Your own threads are defaulted to Follow, though you can change any given thread if for some reason you don’t want to be notified.

If you go to another blogger’s Home Page and scroll to the bottom, you will also find the word Follow. Here, if you click Follow you will be emailed every time this blogger posts a blog. (Not a comment.) If you like the writing of a particular blogger, this can be convenient. This function is not always immediate lately (there can be quite a lag between the post and your being e-mailed about it) so be aware of that. In the event another blogger’s home page is private and you are not Friends, you probably will not have access to this function for that blogger. I only know of one blogger whose home page is currently private, so this exception is not the norm.

If you need further help, contact Lorianne. It’s her site and she’s very responsive.

I hope this helps.

I am now, always have been, and always will be a liberal Democrat.

What kind of "liberal Democrat" are you?

Are you a Clinton "God I love getting money from Wall St. & the Saudis" liberal, an Obama "God I love getting money from Wall St. & the Saudis, but I just won't admit it!" liberal, a DNC "Anyone to the left of Wasserman Schultz is a commie and can go to hell!" liberal,  a faux-progressive "I voted for Bernie in the primaries, but had to go with Hillary..." liberal ::roll eyes::, or a semi-progressive "Bernie got screwed by the DNC, but had to go with Hillary anyways..." liberal???

The reason I ask is because the term "liberal" has been commandeered by a lot of non-liberals to the point of meaning anything from "I'm a KKK supporter, but I'm a fiscally liberal one" on left making "Liberal Democrat" an oxymoron nowadays.

P.S.  You have got to just love koshersalaami because he is the only guy who used 10 paragraphs and a link to his own even longer post to say, "Hi.  Welcome!"  LOL

You know when I said “some of the liberal membership is not Democratic”?

Nice to see you. Bring all your friends, too. There is some diversity of opinion here, but it seems to this (more or less) outside observer, that most would fall into your self-described category.

By “outside” he means Canadian. You know, the North Americans with the sane leadership.

Hey Bob,

Welcome. E Komo Mai as we say in the Islands.

Please help shed more light on how Facebook was used to influence some of the most gullible people on the planet. You can not  name him, I call him P.T. Drumpf, as that is who he really resembles, or what he is A Confederate Yankee. The ignorance on this, and the even deeper not just ignorance but indignation that the Russians know more about the Web and Net Infrastructure than US engineers may actually be the largest problem facing the nation today. All these Social Media experts! hooo boy.

I'd be happy to discuss in fine detail should you find this of interest.
