METS SWEEP YANKEES!! A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE VICTORS

Last night, the Mets completed a four-game sweep of the previously-mighty Yankees. This is the first time that the Mets have taken every game from the Bronx Bombers in a season, and the Mets' faithful are, properly, sticking it to Yankee Nation.

In reality, losing four games to the Mets is not an apocalyptic event for the Yankees - but when one looks at how the Mets exposed the Yankees' weaknesses, their inability to score runs and their thin starting pitching staff, concerns must arise. The Yankees simply are not a first-place team, despite the surprising success that they had enjoyed until they ran into the juggernaut from Citifield.

I have, in the past, taken great pains to bash the Mets and their ineptitude. Now, in light of their destruction of my Yankees, I present the following homage to the Mets - perhaps appropriately, to the tune of Queen's epic "We will Rock You/We are the Champions" - congratulations to the Mets and their fans - may this sweep be the start of great things for your young nucleus, so that New York has at least one competitive team moving forward.

METS:

Yankees always crowing, making big noise

Playing in the Bronx think they own New York all day

Now they got egg on their face, they’re a big disgrace

We kicked their butts all over the place

We just we just swept you

All four games, we just swept you

Yankees you’re a bunch of old men

Come back to Queens we’ll beat you again today

Kicked you right in the face, even in your place

27 banners don’t mean nothing, should just put them away

We just we just swept you

The Mets! Yes, we just swept you

Yankees think you’re so good, big men

Pleadin’ to fans it don’t matter you’ll beat up the Sox today

But you can’t look us in the eye, dominated you can’t deny

Today we’re kings of Big Apple, not just a bunch of young guys

We just we just swept you

We just we just swept you

YANKEES:

We’ve won it all, more than two dozen times

Now we have to admit, that we’re way past our primes

Old brittle bones? We’ve got more than a few

Being swept by the Mets is so bad, so sad, we thought we couldn’t lose

We were once Champions, my friends

But now we must realize, our time at the top is at end

We were once Champions, we were once Champions

Now getting swept by the Mets it’s clear we’re just losers

But we were once Champions, of the world

We used to take bows, all those Bronx curtain calls

George and Hal paid us a king’s fortune & we enjoyed all of it

27 times we won it all

But now we’re aging millionaires, being in first place was just a ruse

We faced a challenge this week and we failed, four times did we lose

We were once Champions, my friends

Swept by a Triple A team? clearly our time on top is at end

We were once Champions, we were once Champions

Don’t score any runs and can’t rely on our starting pitchers

Hard to believe that we were once Champions, of the world

I wish I could care for NY Baseball.

I think, perhaps, that God frowns on it until Sandy once again alits on the Mount of Ebbets.
