Melancholy Daze

I bet you still miss me my ego says in a dream
That'll happen when the oceans stand up and scream,
When the birds fly north on a winter's day
When the twelve disciples have gone astray,

I bet you still miss me it really is a joke
I could laugh a thousand times before I choke
Realizations are often brutal to set my mind free
I understand that the world can get along without me,

I bet you still miss me like the dreams of a little boy
Staring through a store window at his favorite toy
Being wanted becomes the delusions of my vanity
When the truth shouts out that no one wants me,

I bet you still miss me out pops the little voice
Coming from a broken heart that has no choice
Still the need for self esteem and self worth exists
Despite the wounds to the heart that persist,

I bet you still miss me comes the dying hiss
Uttered from a dying serpent cast into the abyss
Where once youth and arrogant love did abound
Come now the muffled groan of a dying sound,

I bet you still miss me comes from the fool within
He can only imagine the trail where he's been
The soldier from a battle who has been carried in
Mortally wounded, earthbound, no stranger to sin,

I bet you still miss me my ego says in a dream
That'll happen when the oceans stand up and scream,
When mankind awakens from its foolish ways
When this fool overcomes his melancholy daze.

Thank you Anna. It's amazing how suffering brings about focus and reflection, but is exactly who the fools we are.
