Since the press conference following the Helsinki meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump I’ve been referring to Trump as “Boris”.  This has been validated by the Russian media which has had a field day discussing the ease with which Putin has manipulated Trump; one news woman referring to him as, “best Kremlin agent”.

When I called him, Boris, this this morning his morning L laughed and sent me this:

It seems that minds run alike given a certain amount of age.

Oh I remember this cartoon well. I even remember my Dad explaining that "Boris Badenov" was a play on the name "Boris Godunov", tsar of Russia, memorialized in a Pushkin play and then a Mussorgsky opera, which he then played for me.
I was very lucky to have had parents who could give me these kinds of cultural references. It seems like so much is lost on later generations.

When we married in 1966 I was almost 24 and she was almost 21.  We were so sure we were all grown up.  We laugh now about never missing an episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle.  In our defense that was a very sophisticated cartoon.  It influenced our lives in many ways.  Our kids have an honorary Uncle Dudley (after Dudley Doright; one third of the Dudley Doright, Priscilla Purebody, Snidely Whiplash triangle.)

One real advantage of living with the same person for so long is that we know exactly what the other is thinking in many situations.

Rosi, what you mentioned is evidence of the sophistication of the cartoon series.

kosh, I discovered that the disappearance of the "share" button on YouTube is due to the fact that you can just right click on the video and "get embed code" is one of the dropdown choices.

You can also get old episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle on Amazon Prime.

re: Tuning in to  "old episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle":

Thanks Rodney, but in my old age i'd prefer a nap or pulling weeds in a fantasy garden to doing that.

The Constant Gardener? Whatever moves you. I won’t be watching the cartoons, either. They were topical humor that is currently fitting again, but I probably won’t watch cartoons or pull weeds.

Pulling weeds is good for maintaing your posture, citing comics is good for establishing attendance,, am one missing a link or some such connexion?

What is the intent of comedy?

Comment by moki ikom on July 23, 2018 at 11:21pm

it depends on whether comedic relief comes from the originator or a  propagator to some extent... i did not view your clip/link though did watch all of two min. of another posters' 'sharknado' and do trust that your comic link was probably the more intellectually provocative of two links, but life at least mine i sense is not infinite and i can only devote so much of it to some else's fascinations of some else's fascinations.
