How ‘bout that Holiday (rimshot!)!

Why the signing matters: only rock-solid stone would be a stronger (known) medium for this purpose than mere paper.

By the affixing of one's signature, the mere paper signifies guarantee in perpetuity of responsibility for any and all outcomes, come what may that may arise from such personal actions and are thereby subject to it’s seal.

What was signed Juy 4th 1776 was merely a pronouncement/affirmation/in your face (if you insist) document that leaves no wiggle-room (formerly known as prevarication) as to the INTENT of the signatories as to what was written, regardez-sil-vous-plais?  (Style points)

And prefaced by (formerly known as a "Preamble") a short concise summation, myeah (said whiningly); might as well call it a downright "introduction" to the forthcoming yet to be read material.

These days you'd have to call it a "teaser" instead of a promise per se, something that faithlessly “promises” without guaranteeing outcome at all since the Preamble to The Declaration of Independence; the "Constitution of The Constitution" as it were and even the very first sentence; the "Constitution of The Constitution of The Constitution" you might say, reads thusly..

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

The first pre-to the pre-to the pre-to the brilliant Declaration, sums up/says it all!

LIFE!  LIBERTY!  PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS!

LIFE!  Well, there’s good and bad news on this front. 

Within a few years (seriously) 70 year olds can avail themselves of treatments that for 40 G’s annually will buy themselves some IMMORTALITY,  and as youthful as they were in their prime; however concomitant 60 Grand a year treatments to suppress the also now immortal cancer cells make it much less of a bargain.

LIBERTY!  The good,  the bad, and the ugly news!

A deranged teen, hating all that should be loved and most of all himself, never having so much as a passing acquaintance with Love in any of his own intimate acquaintances, shot and killed 9 wonderful people who were praying and praising the LOVE that they worshipped exactly because that LOVE was nothing if not liberating.

He allowed himself way too much liberty while zealously denying others to their rights to Life, Liberty, and certainly to any further “Pursuits” of any kind going forward.

Lots of LIBERTY news there…

Many celebrated a few of a frisky Scotus’s decisions for many different reasons.

Lethal Injection

The court decided 5-4 in Glossip v. Gross that states may still use a drug used in apparently botched executions to carry out death sentences.

 

 Same-Sex Marriage

The court decided 5-4 in Obergefell v. Hodges that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.

Pollution Limits

5-4 (unimaginably(sic)) is the SCOTUS tote in regard to three environmental regulation cases.

The court said the EPA had violated (or at least seriously annoyed) the Clean Air Act by failing to do a cost-benefit analysis in deciding whether to set emission limits on mercury and some other toxic pollutants from power plants.   Or, (wait 4 it)….too free to be free!

 

Gotses sem’ tweakin’ to do on that whole “LIBERTY!” thing.

 

And last but not the least, that red-headed step-child

Pursuit Of Happiness” always suckles hind teat as the old folks say…we see Oregon, Alaska and correct me if I’m wrong Vermont or Rhode Island or such all voted full legalization in the last few weeks of the toke ‘em if you got ‘em crowd fave!   Let’s just go to this link http://marijuanamonitor.org/ and see what condition our collective condition is in.   (Excellent site)

Remember, you’re not guaranteed the right to catch “HAPPINESS!” only the right to fly your little butterfly wings off in pursuit thereof.

 

The Bwaha-ish reality of the status of these rights in principle reside in the Bwaha nature.

Bwanas were familiar with it, indeed it was a Bwana who first recorded the mocking laughter of the Bwaha.
